O efeito holístico-partitivo pelo olhar da semântica conceitual

Abstract

Resumo: O presente estudo possui duas áreas de concentração: Semântica Conceitual, na qual se insere a temática desse trabalho; e Linguística de Corpus, que foi nosso método de análise da língua alvo, o Português Brasileiro. Nesse trabalho, nossa pergunta de pesquisa é: dentro da área da Semântica Conceitual, e considerando o efeito Holístico-Partitivo como decorrência de uma alternância Locativa, quais são os mecanismos sintático-semânticos envolvidos para possibilitar essa leitura, e como verificá-la em Português Brasileiro? Para responder essa pergunta, procuramos entender a Semântica Conceitual de Jackendoff (1985[1983], 1990), bem como diferenciamos a alternância Locativa das demais alternâncias a partir de Levin (1993). Construímos o corpus EHP (Efeito Holístico Partitivo), que contou com 131 pares de sentenças a fim de extrair informações sobre o fenômeno, que não havia sido estudado computacionalmente em português até o momento. Com base nos experimentos de Silva (2018), anotamos a aceitabilidade da troca entre as preposições de e com, bem como a possibilidade de nominais nus na alternante Locatum. Como resultado, verificamos que o efeito aceita a troca entre as preposições, e também aceita nominais nus na alternante Locatum. Ainda, defendemos que os verbos participantes da alternância são de Criação e Transformação, de Disposição e Remoção, e de Mudança de Estado. Ademais, postulamos pela Semântica de Jackendoff (1985[1983]) que a função CAUSE estará presente nessa forma sintática. Acreditamos que o efeito se dá a partir de uma soma: o tipo de verbo, a seleção semântica do complemento e a preposição utilizada colaboram com a leitura ora holística, ora partitiva

Abstract: This study has two areas of concentration: Conceptual Semantics, which is the subject of this work; and Corpus Linguistics, which was our method of analysis of the target language, Brazilian Portuguese. In this work, our research question is: within the area of Conceptual Semantics, and considering the Holistic-Partitive effect as a consequence of a Locative alternation, what are the syntactic-semantic mechanisms involved in enabling this reading, and how can it be verified in Brazilian Portuguese? To answer this question, we sought to understand the Conceptual Semantics of Jackendoff (1985[1983], 1990), as well as how we differentiate the Locative alternation from other alternations based on Levin (1993). We constructed the EHP (Holistic-Partitive Effect) corpus, which included 131 pairs of sentences in order to extract information about the phenomenon, which had not been studied computationally in Portuguese until now. Based on Silva's (2018) experiments, we noted the acceptability of the exchange between the prepositions de and com, as well as the possibility of bare nominals in the Locatum alternant. As a result, we verified that the effect accepts the exchange between the prepositions, and also accepts bare nominals in the Locatum alternant. Furthermore, we argue that the verbs participating in the alternation are Creation and Transformation, Disposition and Removal, and Change of State. Furthermore, we postulate from Jackendoff's Semantics (1985[1983]) that the CAUSE function will be present in this syntactic form. We believe that the effect occurs from a sum: the type of verb, the semantic selection of the complement and the preposition used contribute to the sometimes holistic, sometimes partitive reading
