Contribuições de teorias da emoção e da afetividade situada para a análise literária

Abstract

Resumo: Buscando avançar o debate da narratalogia cognitiva sobre o papel das emoções e afetos na escrita e leitura do texto ficcional, este trabalho visa compreender como o texto pode sugestionar emoções no leitor. A estratégia investigativa escolhida envolve considerar, primeiramente, como a teoria literária tem lidado atualmente com questões relacionadas às emoções. Isso será feito a partir de uma estrutura de análise textual denominada por Patrick Colm Hogan de narratologia afetiva. Posteriormente, com o objetivo de aprofundar a abordagem do autor, a pesquisa trata da teoria das emoções de Lisa Feldman Barrett, proveniente da psicologia, chamada de teoria das emoções construídas, e de Jesse Prinz, que dentro da filosofia considera emoções como avaliações corporificadas com valência. Para além disso, conceitos do campo da afetividade situada, como andaimes afetivos, arranjos afetivos e meios afetivos também são testados. O objetivo, com isso, é explorar como cada perspectiva pode contribuir para descrever estratégias de composição textual, pressupondo que a representação textual revela intenções de comunicação. Trata-se, portanto, de uma busca por identificar intenções de emocionalização ou afetivização no texto, demonstrando como é possível dizer que essas intenções estão de fato materializadas na narrativa, mesmo que seus efeitos, no leitor empírico, sejam impossíveis de prever. Isso significa que não se pode dizer que o leitor vai de fato sentir alguma coisa; fala-se, portanto, de intenção de comunicação e a forma como o autor quis sugestionar isso tudo no plano da construção da narrativa. Com essa discussão, a pesquisa preocupou-se em expandir o repertório conceitual proposto inicialmente por Hogan para instrumentalizar uma análise da narrativa de ficção. Por fim, considerando tal panorama, este trabalho propõe possibilidades de análise a partir do romance Dom Casmurro, de Machado de Assis. Essa etapa testa o potencial analítico, para a literatura, das teorias selecionadas, demonstrando como uma abordagem transdisciplinar pode auxiliar na observação de fenômenos relacionados à leitura e às emoções, e depois, como a própria literatura pode ser compreendida em um diálogo com teorias diversas, como as do campo da ciência cognitiva, da psicologia e da filosofia

Abstract: Seeking to advance the debate on cognitive narratology about the role of emotions and affects in the writing and reading of fictional texts, this work aims to understand how the text can suggest emotions to the reader. The chosen investigative strategy involves considering, first, how literary theory has currently dealt with issues related to emotions. This investigation will be developed based on a textual analysis structure developed in Patrick Colm Hogan's affective narratology. Subsequently, with the aim of deepening Hogan's approach, the research engages with Lisa Feldman Barrett's theory of emotions, originating from psychology, called the theory of constructed emotions, and Jesse Prinz, who within philosophy considers emotions as embodied evaluations with valence. In addition, concepts from the field of situated affectivity, such as affective scaffolding, affective arrangements and affective milieus are also tested. The objective, therefore, is to explore how each perspective can contribute to describing textual composition strategies, assuming that the textual representation reveals communicative intentions. We advance, therefore, a search to identify interests of emotionalization or affectivization in the text, demonstrating how it is possible to say that these objectives are in fact materialized in the narrative, even if their effects on the empirical reader are impossible to predict. That is, it cannot be said that the reader will in fact feel something; we focus, therefore, on communicative intent and the way and the way in which the author wanted to suggest all of this in the construction of the narrative. This research was concerned with expanding the conceptual repertoire initially proposed by Hogan to instrumentalize an analysis of the fictional narrative. Finally, considering this panorama, this work proposes proposals for analysis based on the novel Dom Casmurro, written by Machado de Assis. This stage tests the analytical potential, for literature, of the selected theories, demonstrating how a transdisciplinary approach can help in observing specificities related to reading and emotions, and then, how literature itself can be discovered in a dialogue with diverse theories, such as in the fields of cognitive science, psychology and philosophy
