Gulnara Lobato de Morais Pereira : trajetória e contribuições à tradução no Brasil

Abstract

Resumo: Esta dissertação é o resultado da pesquisa sobre a atuação profissional de Gulnara Lobato de Morais Pereira (1912-1986), sobrinha e nora de Monteiro Lobato (1882-1948), tradutora de dezenas de obras para editoras como Companhia Editora Nacional e José Olympio a partir de 1941. Apresentamos um panorama da tradução no Brasil nas primeiras décadas do século XX, bem como uma breve linha do tempo das principais editoras que publicaram traduções de tradutoras mulheres e suas principais coleções. Buscamos explicitar a relação entre Gulnara e Lobato fundamentando os vínculos por meio das cartas, que continham conselhos sobre traduções, sugestões profissionais, ofertas de trabalho, além da natural preocupação familiar. Além disso, criamos um inventário com os livros que ela traduziu para o português, pretendendo inseri-la nos estudos sobre a história da tradução no Brasil e nos estudos sobre mulheres tradutoras do início do século XX. Dentre os referenciais teóricos e históricos usados para a compreensão da história do livro e da tradução, destacamos José Paulo Paes (1990), Lia Wyler (2003), Alessandra El Far (2004), Laurence Hallewell (2005), Lauro Amorim (2005) e Marisa Lajolo e Regina Zilberman (2019). Para os estudos sobre as editoras, destacamos Cilza Bignotto (2018), Gustavo Sorá (2010), Aníbal Bragança (2016) e Elizabeth Toressini (2021)

Abstract: This dissertation is the result of research on the professional performance of Gulnara Monteiro Lobato de Morais (1912-1986), niece and daughter-in-law of Monteiro Lobato (1882-1948). She was the translator of several works for publishers as Companhia Editora Nacional and José Olympio from 1941 and later. Seeking to intertwine the relationship between Gulnara and Lobato, investigating the bonds through letters, that not only deal with family issues, but also contain advice on translations, professional suggestions, job offers, in addition to the natural family concern. This work also presents an inventory of the books Gulnara translated with the aim of inserting her name in studies on the history of translation in Brazil, creating an inventory with the books she translated into Portuguese, intending to insert her in studies of the history of translation in Brazil and in studies on women translators from the beginning of the 20th century. The theoretical references approached in order to understand of the history of the book and of translation, we highlight José Paulo Paes (1990), Lia Wyler (2003), Alessandra El Far (2004), Laurence Hallewell (2005), Lauro Amorim (2005) and Marisa Lajolo and Regina Zilberman (2019).
