Ruptura e narrativa : um estudo sobre mise-en-scène e a extrapolação da ficção científica na série Severance

Abstract

Resumo : A ficção científica, enquanto gênero, tem o poder de extrapolar as limitações do presente e especular sobre futuros possíveis. Ao criar mundos imaginários e cenários tecnológicos, a ficção científica permite uma análise profunda das condições humanas e da sociedade. A série Severance (2022), criada por Dan Erickson e dirigida por Ben Stiller, utiliza esse potencial para explorar temas como a fragmentação da identidade, por meio de uma narrativa eficiente e intrigante. O objetivo deste artigo é investigar como a série combina um elemento extrapolado (um dispositivo que separa as memórias do trabalho da vida pessoal) com o desenvolvimento do enredo e história contada. Ao adotar teorias presentes em O cinema clássico hollywoodiano: normas e princípios narrativos (BORDWELL, 2005) e A arte do cinema (BORDWELL; THOMPSON, 2014), além das definições de ficção científica propostas por Raul Fiker (1985), este estudo busca compreender como esses recursos narrativos e visuais estruturam a armação e revelação de mistérios narrativos

Abstract : Science fiction, as a genre, has the power to transcend the limitations of the present and speculate on possible futures. By creating imaginary worlds and technological scenarios, science fiction allows for a deep analysis of human conditions and society. The series Severance (2022), created by Dan Erickson and directed by Ben Stiller, utilizes this potential to explore themes such as the fragmentation of identity, through an efficient and intriguing narrative. The aim of this article is to investigate how the series combines an extrapolated element (a device that separates work memories from personal life) with the development of the plot and the story being told. By adopting theories presented in Classical Hollywood Cinema: Narratives and Norms (BORDWELL, 2005) and The Art of Cinema (BORDWELL; THOMPSON, 2014), as well as the definitions of science fiction proposed by Raul Fiker (1985), this study seeks to understand how these narrative and visual resources structure the construction and revelation of narrative mysteries
