Abstract: This dissertation is affiliated with Textual Linguistics, more precisely with the research line of Languages and Social Practices, choosing the practice of Linguistic Analysis in the school context as our object of study. Given that, for a long time, teaching has focused on the smallest to the largest structures of the language, disregarding the student's epilinguistic activity, we justify our thematic focus. Based on the hypothesis that Linguistic Analysis has a small space in Portuguese language classes as the mother tongue, our aim is to find clues to this problem in various educational markers. To do so, we use two arguments – one theoretical and one empirical – which are, with na exploratory methodology, qualitatively approached. In theory, through bibliographic research, we first analyze the origins of the concept of Linguistic Analysis with Geraldi and Franchi, the latter being the main precursor of culiolian ideals in Brazil. Next, we provide a historical overview of grammar teaching in the country, leaning on Faraco (2017), Clare (2003), and official documents, both old and current. We also analyze Linguistic Analysis from the perspective of textual genres, with Wachowicz (2010) and a case study by Pagnan and Silveira (2015), as well as the place of linguistic analysis in the modules of Didactic Sequences envisioned by Dolz, Noverraz, and Schneuwly (2004), and studied by Vignoli (2016). Concluding the theoretical part, we examine the relationship between Textual Linguistics and Linguistic Analysis, drawing on Werneck and Teixeira (2017) and Elias (2017). Moving on to the second argument, we investigate Linguistic Analysis in the school context through documentary research, gathering a corpus that ranges from official documents, textbooks (and their guidelines for teachers), and classroom materials to student texts. As a result, we noticed that there are indeed few classrooms that include Linguistic Analysis in the teaching of Portuguese as the mother tongue, and that this has historical and political roots, perpetuated to this day in the various levels of the Brazilian educational hierarchy.
