Abstract: This study intends to investigate how the production of meaning effects occurs in antivaccine discourse, taking utterances regarding vaccines against the coronavirus that circulated during the years 2020 and 2021, in Brazil, as the context for analysis. We saw in the historical event known as the COVID-19 pandemic the growth of rejection and distrust in relation to the vaccine production. Although the denial of certain knowledge produced by science was not a new phenomenon, vaccination was, until then, relatively established in Brazilian society. That said, this investigation is guided by discourse analysis, which provides the theoretical and analytical bases (Pêcheux, 2006, 2014; Orlandi, 2000, 2007). The corpus consists of an archive concerning the discourses that opposed the COVID-19 vaccines, from which discursive sequences are organized to show the functioning of meanings at the level of social circulation. The methodological organization selects three distinct knowledge domains from the archive of anti-vaccine discourses: the common sense, represented by rumors; the politicalinstitutional field, with statements by the former president of Brazil; and the medical knowledge, with declarations of physicians. We attempt to examine in these linguistic materialities how the crossing of different knowledge produces meaning, based on the inscription of the subjects, and considering the conditions in which these discourses were pronounced, i.e., their relationships with history and ideology. The results show the existence of a set of linguistic-discursive features that conform to the domain of repeatability, justifying the configuration of an anti-vaccine discursive formation in the constitution of certain meanings. These features concern a generic and vague aspect of the discourse, an appeal to the imaginary of scientific knowledge, and the projection of a free-willed and autonomous subject. Furthermore, the analyses indicate that heterogeneity operates in the anti-vaccine discursive formation, which works on confrontation, contradictions and the crossing of different fields of knowledge. It means that the relationship between subjects and knowledge also concern to their inscription in the history and their ideological affiliation.
