It selects, as the objects of its field research, fifteen Municipal Schools from the city of Araucária, Paraná, Brazil, which provide the Fundamental Learning level of Basic Education, from first to eighth series. Initially, it performs an exploratory interview with the director or the pedagogue of each school, in order to raise teachers' practices in relation to the object of this research, and a general exam of school library. In a second moment, it sends questionnaires to all of the 629 teachers from the researched schools, with the aim of drawing a map and analyzing practices and difficulties found in this job, obtaining 164 answers in return. The results show that teachers are used to employing documental sources from the community, although the majority of them has not made the correspondent recording and filing. There are important signs of the use of practices turned to cultural inheritance, among which the most significant is that of teachers who keep documents with the perspective of their preservation and use in the library (9% of the people involved in the research), what points out to the importance and urgency of school culture giving visibility to those practices, in order to extend "library as a memory place".
