The management of acidic soils is the object of study by several researchers, entities and institutions worldwide and in southern Brazil many works related to the theme, although some with little depth. In this sense, the present work aimed to address the influence of surface liming on pH changes and agricultural development in Western Parana. The acidity of the soil leads to the solubilization of aluminum, increases the concentration in the soil solution, causing an expulsion of the basic cations in the exchange sites, not to mention that this same element can cause toxicity in the roots of the plants. It is known that the South region is found in the sub-tropical climate, where high precipitation occurs which together with high temperatures facilitate the rapid weathering of rocks and leaching of the bases, causing soils of low fertility. Western Parana, is a region of great prominence due to agricultural development and responsible for a high percentage of the State's grain production. It was observed that a large part of the studies found that the application of surface liming is very limited, making it less efficient in neutralizing the pH in the subsurface and in some cases, there are already studies with plaster to improve the characteristics of calcium in depth. In this literary review, it was clear that the limitations of the limestone on the surface were poorly described and studied and in relation to the planting system, and more research should be done, especially in the western region of Paraná, which represents the region in terms of volume of grain production
