Abstract: This ethnographic research addresses translanguaging practices in a private multilingual school (German-English-Portuguese). The goal is to understand how linguistic practices within this institution relate to the concept of translanguaging. The study defines key concepts such as translanguaging, bi/multilingualism, and bilingual education, analyzing the teaching of additional and bilingual languages. By examining documents such as the National Common Core Curriculum (BNCC), the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), and the Pedagogical Political Project of the institution (PPP), a convergence of ideas with translanguaging theory is observed. Despite the absence of the term in the documents, the focus on multilingualism and authentic communication is evident. Translanguaging spaces exist within the institution, yet the use of translanguaging in the classroom is limited due to concerns about insufficient practice of the additional language and the opinions of the school community. Interviews with teachers demonstrate knowledge and familiarity with the term translanguaging, while it also reveals doubts about its effectiveness. Although there is existing research on translanguaging practices, this study highlights the lack of investigation into teachers' conscious use of these strategies. This research contributes to understanding translanguaging practices in a multilingual context and underscores the importance of incorporating these practices into the classroom to enhance the learning of additional languages. Furthermore, it emphasizes the need for ongoing research on translanguaging in the Brazilian educational context.
