O trágico em Livro Sexto, de Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen

Abstract

Resumo: O Livro Sexto (1962), de Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, é uma das obras portuguesas mais relevantes do século, ao apresentar por meio de um caráter testemunhal impressões sobre a Ditadura Salazarista, conduzida por Antonio Salazar, entre 1933 e 1974. A poeta exprime neste livro a experiência trágica de um período construído sob ares de censura e violência. Assim, este trabalho tem como objetivo estabelecer conexões entre conceitos do trágico, a voz poética e a ditadura salazarista ao analisar treze poemas; sendo doze deles presentes em Livro Sexto (1962), e um poema na publicação Dual (1972). Para isso, foram considerados três pontos essenciais como base desta dissertação. São eles, a renovação do conceito do trágico ao longo da história; a análise histórico-social de Portugal, entre o fim da monarquia e o início da ditadura; e as discussões sobre a presença da tragédia e a constituição do trágico na Modernidade. Deste modo, o aparato teórico concentrou-se nas teorizações e postulados de Sandra Luna, Albin Lesky e Rafael Tavares ao tratar do percurso histórico do trágico; no corpus analítico de Helena Malheiro, Manuel Gusmão e Carlos Ceia ao elaborar as temáticas e discussões críticas a respeito de Andresen, por fim nos apontamentos teóricos de Raymond Williams e Terry Eagleton sobre o trágico na Modernidade. No que se refere à metodologia, esta concentrou-se na análise bibliográfica dos autores indicados. Dessa maneira, observa-se que o trágico sob o viés da modernidade, em Livro Sexto, revela-se como uma experiência trágica ligada aos aspectos individuais e coletivos de revolta e da busca da liberdade contra um sistema autoritário, orbitando entre os aspectos de revolução e fragilidade que estruturam a tessitura poética da obra.

Abstract: The Livro Sexto (1962), by Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, is one of the most relevant portuguese works of the century, as it presents, through a testimonial character, impressions about the Salazarist Dictatorship, led by Antonio Salazar, between 1933 and 1974. The poet expresses in this book the tragic experience of a period built on an air of censorship and violence. Thus, this work aims to establish connections between concepts of the tragic, the poetic voice and the Salazar dictatorship by analyzing thirteen poems; twelve of them being present in Livro Sexto (1962), and a poem in the publication Dual (1972). For this, three essential points were considered as the basis of this dissertation. They are, the renewal of the concept of the tragic throughout history; the historical-social analysis of Portugal, between the end of the monarchy and the beginning of the dictatorship; and the discussions about the presence of tragedy and the constitution of the tragic in Modernity. In this way, the theoretical apparatus concentrated on the theories and postulates of Sandra Luna, Albin Lesky and Rafael Tavares when dealing with the historical course of the tragic; in the analytical corpus of Helena Malheiro, Manuel Gusmão and Carlos Ceia when elaborating the themes and critical discussions about Andresen, finally in the theoretical notes of Raymond Williams and Terry Eagleton on the tragic in Modernity. With regard to the methodology, it focused on the bibliographical analysis of the indicated authors. In this way, it is observed that the tragic under the bias of modernity, in Livro Sexto, reveals itself as a tragic experience linked to the individual and collective aspects of revolt and the search for freedom against an authoritarian system, orbiting between the aspects of revolution and fragility that structure the poetic fabric of the work.
