A tradução da poesia entrelínguas de Rose Ausländer

Abstract

Resumo: A presente dissertação analisa e traduz parte da produção em alemão e inglês da poeta Rose Ausländer (1901-1988). Nascida na região de Bucovina, no antigo Império Austro-húngaro, e falante materna de alemão, a poeta compôs parte significativa de sua obra em língua inglesa, sobretudo após o exílio em 1946. Nosso objetivo é aproximar sua criação poética em língua alemã e inglesa para refletir os modos pelo qual o encontro entre as línguas produz sentidos e significados poéticos em sua obra, assim como discutir formas possíveis de traduzi-lo em uma perspectiva crítica e multilíngue. Para isso, em um primeiro momento, contextualizamos de forma breve a trajetória biográfica e poética da autora, focalizando suas experiências plurilinguísticas e sua relação com a língua e literatura de língua inglesa. Em um segundo momento, investigamos teoricamente questões relativas ao multilinguismo e à tradução, e também a relação entre essas categorias. Então, discorremos sobre o projeto de tradução deste trabalho, que selecionou nove poemas para serem analisados e vertidos ao português. Com fins de pensar o multilinguismo em Ausländer de modo amplo, foram selecionados poemas de língua inglesa e alemã para os quais o entrecruzamento de línguas é esteticamente importante. Cada poema é apresentado seguido de uma discussão interpretativa, na maioria das vezes baseada em comentários e análises anteriores de outros pesquisadores. Junto a esse debate, apresentamos propostas de tradução para os poemas, com comentários justificando nossas posições e escolhas tradutórias. Salientamos que neste trabalho procuramos mobilizar a tradução como ferramenta crítica, na medida em que a análise literária dos textos poéticos é diretamente relacionada com o trabalho de tradução que os acompanha.

Abstract: This thesis analyzes and translates part of the production in German and English of the poet Rose Ausländer (1901-1988). Born in Bukovina, in the former Austro-Hungarian Empire, and a native German speaker, the poet composed a significant part of her work in English, especially after her exile in 1946. Our goal is to approach her poetic creation both in German and English to reflect on the ways in which the encounter between these languages creates poetic meanings in her work, as well as to discuss possible ways to translate it in a critical and multilingual perspective. To do so, we first briefly contextualize the author's biographical and poetic trajectory, focusing on her plurilingual experiences and her relationship with English language and literature. Next, we investigate theoretical issues related to multilingualism and translation, and the relationship between these categories. Then, we discuss the translation project of this thesis, which selected nine poems to be analyzed and translated into Portuguese. In order to think about multilingualism in Ausländer broadly, English and German language poems were selected for which the intermingling of languages is aesthetically important. Each poem is presented followed by an interpretive discussion, mostly based on previous comments and analyses by other researchers. Along with this discussion, we present translation proposals for the poems, with comments justifying our positions and translation choices. We emphasize that in this thesis we seek to mobilize translation as a strategical critical approach, to the extent that the literary analysis of the poetic texts is directly related to the translation work that accompanies them.
