O Reigen de Arthur Schnitzler como ciranda brasileira : a tradução de personagens-tipo em crise

Abstract

Resumo: Esta dissertação tem por objetivo o estudo e a tradução da peça Reigen do escritor e médico austríaco Arthur Schnitzler (1862 - 1931), que viveu no período conhecido como Viena fin-de-siècle. Inicialmente, trata do contexto político do fin-de-siècle que levou à chamada crise percebida nas artes, ciência e literatura. A segunda parte analisa a inserção de Schnitzler nesse cenário e o contexto de criação e exibição de Reigen como obra panóptica da sociedade vienense da época, e a criação de seus personagens-tipo. Em seguida, aborda o lugar do texto dramático no teatro e a tradução do texto teatral, orientando-se por trabalhos teóricos atuais na área de tradução teatral. Na sequência, serão apresentados os personagens de Reigen em contexto brasileiro bem como serão justificadas algumas escolhas tradutórias. Por fim, serão apresentadas duas traduções de quatro cenas selecionadas de Reigen como Ciranda, das quais uma procura apresentar a peça de Schnitzler ao público brasileiro, enquanto a outra tem como finalidade uma atualização do texto original no contexto brasileiro.

Abstract: This dissertation aims at the study and translation of the play Reigen by the Austrian writer and physician Arthur Schnitzler (1862 - 1931), who lived in the period known as Vienna fin-de-siècle. Initially, it deals with the political context of the fin-de-siècle that led to the so-called crisis perceived in the arts, science and literature. The second part analyzes Schnitzler's insertion in this scenario and the context of Reigen's creation and exhibition as a panoptic work of the Viennese society of the time, and the creation of his stock characters. Then, it addresses the place of the dramatic text in the theater and the translation of the theatrical text, guided by current theoretical works in the field of theatrical translation. Following, Reigen's characters in a Brazilian context will be presented and some translation choices will be justified. Finally, two translations of four selected scenes by Reigen as Ciranda will be presented, of which one seeks to present Schnitzler's play to the Brazilian audience, while the other aims to update the original text in the Brazilian context.
