História, memória e identidade : uma análise do romance Uma menina está perdida no seu século à procura do pai, de Gonçalo M. Tavares

Abstract

Resumo: Neste trabalho analisamos o romance Uma menina está perdida no seu século à procura do pai (2015), de Gonçalo M. Tavares. Neste romance, temos uma menina de quatorze anos com síndrome de Down como personagem principal, acompanhada por Marius, que se torna seu protetor. O romance se constitui de encontros entre essas duas personagens e as demais. Se passa em um contexto identificável como o do pós-segunda guerra, mas apresenta-nos uma realidade diferente da histórica, e para isso se serve de alguns elementos insólitos. Para a análise do romance, dividimos o nosso trabalho em cinco capítulos: Gonçalo M. Tavares e a literatura portuguesa contemporânea, no qual refletimos sobre as tendências presentes nesta literatura, aspectos característicos da escrita de Gonçalo M. Tavares, e como ele se aproxima ou se afasta da literatura portuguesa atual. Antes dos demais capítulos, discorremos brevemente a respeito do insólito, visto que esse termo aparecerá recorrentemente nos demais capítulos, pois o romance como um todo é estruturado de maneira insólita. Em seguida, como o romance por nós estudado tem como contexto o pós-guerra, dedicamos um capítulo para comparação entre o que os relatos historiográficos nos falam sobre o pós-guerra e o que nos é apresentado pelo romance. Neste capítulo duas obras foram fundamentais: Pós-guerra: uma história da Europa desde 1945 (2011), de Tony Judt, e Continente selvagem: o caos na Europa depois da Segunda Guerra Mundial (2017), de Keith Lowe. Além disso, no romance os judeus têm uma relação fortíssima com a memória. Por isso, no terceiro capítulo deste trabalho intitulado Os judeus e a memória, fizemos uma breve reflexão teórica sobre a memória, tendo por base autores como Pollak (1992) e Motta (2003); sobre a relação dos judeus com ela, em que nos auxiliaram os trabalhos de Szuchman (2006) e Nascimento (2007), e analisamos de que forma os personagens judeus do romance a concebem. Em parte relacionada à questão memorialística está a identidade, e dedicamos o quarto capítulo a esse tema. Primeiramente, também fizemos uma análise da teoria de Hall (2006). Em seguida, ao falarmos sobre como a identidade era concebida durante e após a guerra, foram fundamentais os seguintes autores: Pfeffer e Geber (2017), e Spiering e Wintle (2011). Depois disso analisamos a identidade dos personagens do romance. Por fim, nosso último capítulo trata da instância narrativa. Seguindo a estrutura dos capítulos anteriores, esta reflexão teórica teve como base Dal Farra (1978) e Booth (1980). Por fim, analisamos a instância narrativa no romance, e qual o papel que ela exerce neste trabalho interpretativo. Palavras-chave: Gonçalo M. Tavares. Insólito. Memória. Identidade. Abstract: In this work we analyze the novel A girl is lost in her century looking for her father (2015), by Gonçalo M. Tavares. In this novel, we have a fourteen-year-old girl with Down syndrome as the main character, accompanied by Marius, who becomes her protector. The novel consists of encounters between these two characters and the others. It takes place in a post-war context, but it presents us with a different reality from the historical one, and for that it uses some unusual elements. For the analysis of the novel, we divided our work into five chapters: Gonçalo M. Tavares and contemporary Portuguese literature, in which we reflect on the trends present in this literature, characteristic aspects of Gonçalo M. Tavares' writing, and how he approaches or moves away from current Portuguese literature. Before the other chapters, we spoke briefly about the unusual, since this term will appear repeatedly in the other chapters, because the novel as a whole is structured in an unusual way. Then, as the novel we studied has a post-war context, we devote a chapter for comparison between what the historiographical reports tell us about the post-war and what is presented to us by the novel. In this chapter, two works were fundamental: Post-war: a history o f Europe since 1945 (2011), by Tony Judt, and Savage continent: Europe in the Aftermath of World War II (2017), by Keith Lowe. Furthermore, in the novel jews have a very strong relationship with memory. Therefore, in the third chapter of this work entitled The Jews and memory, we made a brief theoretical reflection on memory, based on authors such as Pollak (1992) and Motta (2003); about the relationship of the Jews with her, in which the works of Szuchman (2006) and Nascimento (2007) helped us, and we analyzed how the Jewish characters in the novel conceive it. Partly related to the memorialistic issue is identity, and we dedicate the fourth chapter to talk about this topic. First, we also did an analysis of Hall's theory (2006). Then, when talking about how identity was conceived during and after the war, the following authors were fundamental: Pfeffer and Geber (2017), and Spiering and Wintle (2011). After that we analyzed the identity of the characters in the novel. Finally, our last chapter deals with the narrative instance. Following the structure of the previous chapters, this theoretical reflection was based on Dal Farra (1978) and Booth (1980).
