Fórmulas de abertura e conclusão de discursos diretos no Canto I da Ilíada e suas traduções por Odorico Mendes

Abstract

Resumo: Este estudo tem por objeto o conjunto das fórmulas de abertura e conclusão de discursos diretos no canto 1 da Ilíada e suas traduções por Odorico Mendes. As fórmulas são agrupadas de acordo com o verbo declarativo em sua estrutura, incluindo considerações sobre as diversas flexões e sua frequência na obra de Homero. Recorrências das fórmulas presentes no canto 1 em outras passagens da Ilíada e Odisseia são levadas em consideração na medida em que revelam semelhanças pragmáticas e de contexto. A abordagem descreve aspectos sintáticos e narratológicos observáveis no uso destas fórmulas. As traduções de Odorico são elencadas em paralelo ao texto grego e seguidas de comentários para cada caso. Palavras-chave: Homero; Ilíada; tradução; Odorico Mendes; fórmulas; discurso direto.

Abstract: This research focuses on the speech-tag formulas (that is, the narratorial direct-speech introductions and conclusions) in book 1 of the Iliad, the frequency of recurrence of these formulas in the Homeric texts, the Iliad and the Odyssey, and the Brazilian translations of such formulas by Odorico Mendes. The formulas are grouped according to the declarative verb employed in the phrase followed by critical observations about their different forms, conjugations and frequency of reccurrence in the Homeric texts. The repetition of these formulas in the whole of the Iliad and the Odyssey will be analysed when pragmatic and contextual correspondences are observed. The approach of the study describes syntactic and narratological correspondences observed in the use of these formulas throughout Homer. The translations of the speech tags by Odorico Mendes are listed alongside the Greek text and followed by critical notes and comments.
