O perfume : linguagem literária olfativa e adaptação fílmica como (re)criação

Abstract

Resumo: Dos cinco sentidos humanos, o olfato certamente é o menos estudado em pesquisas científicas. Nas artes, entretanto, especialmente na literatura, as sensações olfativas têm sido exploradas em diversos gêneros desde a Antiguidade, por estarem associadas às emoções, aos instintos e à memória das pessoas. Duas obras importantes que valorizam o olfato são O Perfume: história de um assassino, de Patrick Süskind, romance publicado em 1985, e o filme homônimo adaptado e dirigido por Tom Tykwer em 2006. A presente dissertação analisa o romance e o filme nas questões intrinsecamente ligadas ao olfato, de forma a compreender a linguagem olfativa criada pelo escritor e recriada pelo cineasta, a constituição do personagem principal e o destaque na história para a invenção do melhor perfume do mundo. Para desenvolver a análise do livro e do filme, esta pesquisa baseia-se em aspectos literários, históricos, filosóficos e sociais sobre o processo da olfação. Considerando as teorias da adaptação contemporâneas, principalmente de Linda Hutcheon e Robert Stam, a dissertação estabelece relações dialógicas entre o livro e o filme sempre destacando características específicas de cada mídia e o ponto de vista de cada autor. Abstract: Of the five human senses, smell is certainly the least studied in scientific research. In the arts, however, especially in literature, the olfactory sensations has been explored in various genres from antiquity, being associated with the emotions, the instincts and the people's memory. Two important works that value the smell are Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Süskind, novel published in 1985, and the homonym film adapted and directed by Tom Tykwer in 2006. This dissertation analyzes the novel and the film on the issues intrinsically associated with the smell, in order to understand the olfactory language created by writer and recreated by filmmaker, the constitution of the main character and the highlight in history to the invention of the best perfume in the world. To develop the analysis of the book and the film, this research is based on literary, historical, philosophical and social aspects of the olfaction process. Considering the theories of contemporary adaptation, especially Linda Hutcheon and Robert Stam, this dissertation establishes dialogical relations between the book and the film, always contrasting the specific characteristics of each media and the point of view of each author.
