Abstract: This dissertation indicates the results of an ethnographic case study, conducted in the library of the Olindamir Merlin Claudino State College, located in Fazenda Rio Grande, a municipality in the metropolitan region of Curitiba, State of Paraná, Brazil. Having as general objective to understand how the dynamics of the work of the school library converts a physical space into a reader environment, the literature review covers studies on the historical evolution of school libraries (OCTAVIANO; REY; SILVA, 1999; MILANESI, 2002; FEITOSA, 2015; PAIVA, 2012; MELLO, 2016), the relationship between space and reader environment (FORNEIRO, 1998; GREENMAN, 1988; COSSON, 2016; CHAMBERS, 2007; BORDINI; AGUIAR, 1993; SOUZA, MOTOYAMA, 2014; SILVA; FERREIRA; SCORSI, 2009), the needs and specificities linked to the organization of a library aimed at the formation of the literary reader (SILVA; FERREIRA; SCORSI, 2009; SILVA, 2006; PETIT, 2008), issues related to the acquis (GIGANTE, 1995; SILVA, 2009; FERREIRA, 2009; PATTE, 2012) and the training of those responsible at school to ensure that students have their right to access books and literary Reading (CANDIDO, 2011, CASTRILLÓN, 2011). The field research took place between May and November 2022, based on the observation of the activities developed in the library, as well as interviews with librarians and teachers responsible for the curricular component of Portuguese language, about his experiences with literary reading. In addition, during this period, spontaneous testimonies were collected from students and employees included in the school Community about their relationship with the library, through a questionnaire and sticky notes on a wall. The material collected in the field, added to the reflections of referenced authors, indicates that the work carried out in the school library effectively contributes to unleashing reading skills, the taste for reading, in short, for the development of literary literacy. It also points out that the school library is a collective space that depends for its proper functioning on the engagement of the management team, teachers, students and public authorities. However, it is noteworthy that the school library is negatively impacted by the lack of opportunities for training courses for collaborators who act as librarian agents and by the precarious training of teachers about literary literacy, with these reasons being the triggers for improvised actions: still that projects are developed, are nothing more than sporadic actions impacted by the discontinuity. In addition, there is an accumulation of tasks for both librarians and teachers, which is a factor pointed out by them as an impasse in the development of their actions in favor of literary reading.
