Que tipo de withness comtitude seria essa? : traduzindo os ensaios de Anne Carson

Abstract

Resumo: Esta pesquisa apresenta a tradução de quatro ensaios do livro Decreation (2006) da escritora canadense Anne Carson (1950 - ) e comenta os ensaios a partir das noções de withness comtitude e wrongness erritude. A tese é uma tentativa de escrever em comtitude com a autora, por isso formulada em primeira pessoa e em forma de ensaios que tecem - como faz Carson com Virginia Woolf, Emily Dickinson, Safo, Simone Weil e Marguerite Porete - uma rede afetiva de escritoras que são também tradutoras e professoras. A fim de mostrar como a dinâmica gênero-poder marca o projeto de escrita da autora desde o começo, são apontadas relações entre a autora e os estudos feministas da tradução. Para além de evidenciar estratégias feministas de tradução, procura-se construir uma coerência entre teoria e prática, apresentando traduções feministas. Mesmo diante da escassa bibliografia sobre o livro Decreation e sobre a produção ensaística de Carson, esta pesquisa se ampara em uma ampla revisão da fortuna crítica sobre a autora, escrita majoritariamente em língua inglesa. O objetivo principal é oferecer ao público leitor e à comunidade acadêmica em geral a oportunidade de ler em português brasileiro os ensaios, conhecer mais sobre as operações criativas e insistências filosóficas da escritora e relacionar-se com as possibilidades de viver ensaisticamente. Para a crítica especializada sobre Carson no Brasil, esta pesquisa espera oferecer pontos de partida para futuras investigações, instigando novas traduções e maneiras outras de fazer pesquisa acadêmica. Para demais agentes nas áreas de tradução e ensino, espera-se que encontrem aqui novas proposições de trabalho, no que concerne, principalmente, escrita de ensaio, tradução feminista e práticas pedagógicas.

Abstract: This research presents the translation of four essays from the book Decreation (2006) by Canadian writer Anne Carson (1950 - ) and comments on the essays based on the notion of withness and wrongness. The thesis is an attempt to write withness with the author, therefore formulated in the first person and in the form of essays that weave - as Carson does with Virginia Woolf, Emily Dickinson, Sappho, Simone Weil and Marguerite Porete - an affective net between female writers who are also translator and pedagogues. In order to show how the gender-power dynamic marks the author's writing project from the beginning, common elements between the author's work and feminist tranlation studies are pointed out. In addition to highlighting feminist translation strategies, we seek to build coherence between theory and practice, presenting feminist translations. Even in the face of the scarce bibliography on the book Decreation and on Carson's essay production, this research is supported by a broad review of the critical fortune, written mostly in English. Its main objective is to offer the reading public and the academic community in general the opportunity to read the essays in Brazilian Portuguese, learn more about the writer's creative operations and philosophical insistences and relate to the possibilities of living essayistically. For specialist criticism of Carson in Brazil, this research hopes to offer starting points for future investigations, instigating new translations and other ways of doing academic research. For other agents in the areas of translation and teaching, it is expected that they will find here new working propositions in contexts of pedagogical exchange, with regard, mainly, to essay writing, feminist translation and pedagogical practices.
