Abstract: The present research had as object of analysis the reports produced by students of 4º and 5º years between 8 and 10 years of elementary school of a municipal school in Curitiba / PR, after a pedagogical intervention carried through with the application of didactic sequences, developed in four meetings, with Afro- Brazilian children's literature books as triggers of the proposed activities. The theory of the aesthetic effect was used as a theoretical contribution from Wolfgang Iser (1996, 1999)) and Maria Antonieta J. de Oliveira Borba (2003) in order to understand the senses and interpretations aroused by reading and the representations that the participants of the research communicate about racism, prejudice and racial discrimination, and thus elucidate issues that permeate their school routine. Eliane Santana Debus (2017), and Debora Cristina de Araujo (2018,2016) stand out among the authors dealing with racial education and their teaching, using Eliane dos Santos Cavalleiro (2000), Nilma Lino Gomes (2003, 2006, 2019). It was found that the effects produced by the work with the chosen literature books, Chico Rei by Renato Lima (2014) and Each one in their own way, each way is one! by Lucimar Rosa Dias (2012), reflected in students' access to what they understand as reality, manifested through reports and correlated images about racial issues. In summary, the results observed in the study of the material produced that were implemented by the teachers during their classes, revealed a stimulus to critical and reflective rigor in reality, showing meaning in the understanding of the operating structures of racism, especially in the school environment, and in demonstrate motivation in counterpoint movements to this reality. Although, it is noted that a portion of the students do not have a clear understanding between the difference between racism and bullying, and the representation of the black population communicated by the images shows a universal pattern, in its idealized aspect.
