Abstract: Social inequalities converted into educational inequalities are the study object of most researches that analyze the school career of agents in the educational field. The educational system contributes to the conversion and legitimation of these inequalities as it treats more or less unequal agents as equals. This dissertation aimed to investigate the relationships between internal and external factors that may influence the writing performance of the participants in the National High School Exam (Enem), especially, those who received zero or thousand grades in their texts, from 2009 to 2018. This is a research in the field of Education, which establishes links with the Sociology of Education, Sociolinguistics and Public Policies for the educational Evaluation. This study is part of quantitative research, developed from the analysis of Enem data, whose population was 1,154,800, and used the SPSS software. To carry out this research, was used the Pierre Bourdieu's theory of social practices, mainly, for the understanding and sociological interpretation of the data. The theoretical framework is composed by François Dubet, with the critical perspective in relation to school and Mikhail Bakhtin, with the theory of discourse genres. The variables analyzed were: sex/gender, type of school, parental education, internet access, age, color/race and family income. Among the results obtained, it was possible to conclude that the parents' education is one of the main distinguishing factors of the participants, being an indicator of influence of the inherited cultural capital. The other factors have a considerable influence on the educational destiny of the participants, with the exception only of sex/gender, which, in the data analyzed here, did not reveal itself as such an expressive variable. From the present investigation, Enem's contradictory characteristic was evident. At the same time that makes access to higher education viable (as an integrated public policy to others), also remains exclusionary, because it selects conserving social inequalities, that is, the examination consecrates those who are already favored, while it discredits the least favored.
