A mulher rei e a representação da mulher negra no cinema estadunidense

Abstract

Resumo : Este trabalho se propôs a analisar o filme A Mulher Rei (2022), com destaque para as quatro personagens femininas em posição de protagonismo e com mais tempo de tela, sob a perspectiva do feminismo negro estadunidense, examinando a forma com que as mulheres negras são representadas no cinema hegemônico. Para tal, os tempos de tela de cada personagem foram contabilizados, e uma análise de filme (PENAFRIA, 2009) foi feita com base nas imagens de controle propostas por Collins (2019). Assim, foi possível concluir que, por ser um produto afrocentrado, dirigido por uma mulher negra e estrelado por um elenco majoritariamente feminino e negro, a trama traz mulheres negras ocupando espaços de poder e no controle de sua representação, sob a perspectiva da autodefinição (COLLINS, 2019)

Abstract : This paper aimed to analyze the film The Woman King (2022), highlighting the four female characters in leading positions and with the most screen time, from the perspective of American black feminism, examining the way black women are represented in hegemonic cinema. To this end, the screen time of each character was counted, and a film analysis (PENAFRIA, 2009) was carried out based on the control images proposed by Collins (2019). Thus, it was possible to conclude that, as it is an Afrocentric product, directed by a black woman and starring a predominantly female and black cast, the plot presents black women occupying spaces of power and in control of their representation, from the perspective of self-definition (COLLINS, 2019).
