Abstract: The main objective that guides this research is to analyze the presence of whiteness in the Pedagogy course at the State University of Central-West of Paraná, Unicentro. The research, with a qualitative approach, included semi-structured interviews with teachers and students from the Pedagogy course on the Santa Cruz-Guarapuava campus, and from the Rural Pedagogy course, focusing on the subjects that include the education of ethnic-ethnic relations in the syllabus. racial. The interviews were also carried out with the course coordinator, at the time of carrying out the research, and the previous coordinator. Other important moments for the research occurred with my participation in classes offered by one of the professors and with the invitation to teach a class in the Rural Pedagogy course, an opportunity in which I was able to learn a little about this modality offered by the university. Based on the analysis of other research carried out on the inclusion of ethnic-racial relations education in the country's Pedagogy courses, in addition to research carried out in other countries, it is possible to identify institutional racism and whiteness as a rule in universities and training courses of teachers. Regarding the context in which the researched university is located, the municipality of Guarapuava, it was possible to verify the historical construction of an imaginary based on the whitening of the population of which the city is mostly made up of descendants of European immigrants, relegating the past and present from the black population to erasure. In this context, Unicentro reproduces this imaginary by denying the black population the right to racial quotas and access to university. Whiteness is thus manifested through institutional authority and operationalizes the maintenance of white privilege and the university as a space of power reserved for specific social groups. Furthermore, the Pedagogy course, based on what is set out in the Pedagogical Course Project, reproduces a vision of overcoming inequalities solely through class bias, disregarding race and racism as structuring elements of social relations. Through the interviews, it was possible to verify that the education of ethnic-racial relations was included in the curriculum only in a formal aspect. Thus, whiteness operates in the curriculum, excluding knowledge produced by black authors and social groups such as black and indigenous people. The teacher trainers do not have training to work with the topic and no actions were identified to implement the education of ethnic-racial relations. However, the development of the research led towards rural pedagogy, a course offered by Unicentro based on the demands of the Landless Movement and the quilombola movement. From this context, we can see the actions of social movements with destabilizing subjectivities that put pressure on institutions such as universities, historically constituted as spaces of power. In conclusion, ensuring access and permanence of the black population at universities is just an initial step towards an anti-racist education that challenges the privileges of whiteness. Furthermore, it is essential that course curricula have an epistemological openness to different sources of knowledge, to the social groups to which black students belong and the knowledge they produce.
