Abstract: This thesis entitled "The impact of remote teaching on teacher's beliefs and emotions" aimed at investigating in which way the remote emergency teaching affected the beliefs (DEWEY, 1933; CROSS; HONG, 2009; BARCELOS, 2004) and emotions (PLUTCHIK, 2001; BARCELOS, 2015) of five English-Medium Instruction professors, who teach at a graduate level at Federal University of Paraná (UFPR). To accomplish this aim, questionnaires were applied and answered by 22 professors of which 8 claimed to have thought during the emergency teaching period and only 5 have accepted to participate in the semi structured interviews. The complexity of beliefs and emotions is an important aspect to be analyzed in teachers' practices, because it affects their identity (BARCELOS, 2015). Therefore, this study sought to analyze the possible changes in professors' beliefs and emotions during the COVID-19 pandemic when many professionals were working from home for the first time. The analysis of data focused on the transcripts of the interviews. Furthermore, the content of the interviews was analyzed according to the theory of beliefs (DEWEY, 1933; CROSS; HONG, 2009; BARCELOS, 2004) and the theory of emotions (PLUTCHIK, 2001; BARCELOS, 2015). The objective of this research was also to investigate if the "monitored" environment of the remote emergency teaching influenced teachers' behavior, resembling a type of panopticism (FOUCAULT, 1999; 2008). The results confirm the importance of beliefs and emotions in teaching in times of change. The research points to the necessity of equity when offering training to deal with technological resources and resources, also, in the tools' distribution to professors and teachers that work in different areas. Additionally, the results suggest the creation of a support system/network in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
