Abstract: The research aimed to understand the emotions experienced by professor of public and private Higher Education Institutions, in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, from the transition to remote work to the return to face-to-face work. The theoretical framework involved the concepts of affective processes in organizational studies, ambivalence of emotions, and issues about remote teaching technologies, time, and space that were brought forward in order to aid in the understanding of the research objectives and to emphasize the importance of these issues in organizational studies. The ontological and epistemological positioning was interpretivist. The qualitative research was used, by means of a basic qualitative study. For data collection, semistructured interviews were used. For data analysis, interpretative phenomenological analysis was applied, based on Gill (2015). The participants in this research were 12 faculty members from public and private higher education institutions. The data obtained reveal the emotions experienced by the professors during the pandemic period, from the transition to remote work to the return to face-to-face work, in relation to teaching technologies and space and time. As results, we observed the impact these emotions had on the professor work, on their health, and on their relationship with the students. The results revealed that social confinement caused the professor to have feelings of emotional ambivalence, because at the same time they felt "relief" and "security" due to being protected from the unknown virus, they experienced "sadness", "loneliness", "fears", "anxiety", "tension/stress", either because of the effects of the virus on society or because of the lack of interaction with students. This study contributes theoretically to the understanding of the themes: affective processes in organizations, emotional ambivalence, teaching technologies, and space and time. Moreover, the research made it possible to introduce the theme of emotional ambivalence in Brazilian studies, especially in the area of administration. Moreover, it has practical contributions for managers to provide support to professors and students, and also for the formulation of projects in the university context to promote institutional support to professors and students in various contexts of crisis. As a suggestion for future research, studies can be conducted to analyze the impact of institutional support or its absence on the emotions experienced during the pandemic and other crisis contexts.
