Metro, diálogo e tradução das Bucólicas de Calpúrnio Sículo

Abstract

Resumo: Esta tese se refere ao estudo de aspectos métricos, rítmicos e discursivos das Bucólicas do poeta romano Calpúrnio Sículo e à sua tradução poética. O objeto de estudo é um livro que contém sete poemas em latim de datação imprecisa, talvez do século I d.C. ou do século III d.C. Além de apresentar a análise desse objeto, a tese propõe uma reflexão teórica sobre o epos latino, isto é, sobre as diversas formas do hexâmetro e seus usos possíveis no contexto literário romano antigo. Essa variedade é avaliada com seus gêneros poéticos, principalmente a poesia bucólica, e sua relação com o problema da canonicidade no estudo da métrica latina. Para realizar a tradução, objetivou-se apurar o contexto da recepção brasileira da poesia bucólica latina e os meios de se criticar e de se traduzir esse gênero poético na atualidade. Optou-se para a versão em português por traduzir o corpus poético em hexâmetros vernáculos, metro adotado em traduções nacionais de poesia clássica desde o século XX. A execução do trabalho crítico e do trabalho tradutório em conjunto evidenciou a necessidade da investigação do metro e do ritmo em cada caso, com atenção para as peculiaridades de sua organização na poesia calpurniana e suas consequências para a tradução poética.

Abstract: This thesis is concerned with the study of metrical, rhythmic and discursive aspects of the Bucolics of the Roman poet Calpurnius Siculus and their poetic translation. The object of study is a book containing seven Latin poems of inexact dating, perhaps from the 1st or 3rd century AD. Besides presenting the analysis of the object, the thesis proposes a theoretical reflection on Latin epos, in other words, on the various forms of the hexameter and its possible uses in the ancient Roman literary context. This variety is assessed with its poetic genres, especially pastoral poetry, and their relationship with the problem of canonicity in the study of Latin meter. As regards the translation, the aim is to investigate the context of the Brazilian reception of Latin pastoral poetry and how this poetic genre is approached by critics and translators nowadays. As to the Portuguese version, I have decided to translate the poetic corpus into Portuguese hexameters, a meter adopted in Brazilian translations of classical poetry since the 20th century. Doing the critical work and the translation together demonstrated the need to examine the meter and the rhythm in each case, with attention to the peculiarities of their organization in Calpurnian poetry and their consequences for the poetic translation.
