    Abstract

Abstract: The energy sector is the most represented in the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG) in the world. In an attempt to decarbonize energy generation and take responsibility for possible consequences, such as climate change, the sector is looking for a more renewable matrix. Biomass can be considered as such, since its base is the reuse of waste that can come from different sources, including forestry. This work aims to analyze and understand the current panorama of the energy sector generated through forest biomass in Brazil. Black liquor is the forest input with the best energy performance, while biomass plants that use forest residues as input represent the largest number of units, approximately 58% of the total forest biomass plants in the country. This is a reflection of the development and prominence of the steel and pulp and paper industry in Brazil, a sector that has the largest numbers of power plants for generating forest biomass.
