Linguística experimental : contornos de uma reflexão meta-teórica

Abstract

Resumo: O presente trabalho propõe que a Linguística atual apresenta um campo de produção de estudos experimentais caracterizados pela elaboração de hipóteses que são verificadas experimentalmente pela mensuração psicométrica de respostas. Esse campo, o qual denominamos de Linguística experimental, se difere da investigação realizada pela Psicolinguística, pois não se volta ao desenvolvimento de teorias cognitivas sobre a faculdade de linguagem, mas para a avaliação de hipóteses teóricas, inclusive de teorias concorrentes sobre a explicação de um mesmo fenômeno linguístico. Com vistas a compreender o lugar interdisciplinar criado pela confluência de teorias e metodologias de diversos níveis de análise linguística realizado pela Linguística experimental, consideramos inicialmente a reflexão sobre os diferentes modos de se produzir conhecimento científico, assim como a história das metodologias científicas e das metodologias utilizadas pela Linguística. Verificamos que o recurso à experimentação conduz a um amadurecimento da ciência da linguagem através da possibilidade de embasar empiricamente as teorias linguísticas, atuando também como complemento a outras metodologias já utilizadas nessa ciência.

Abstract: The present work proposes that the current Linguistics presents a field of production of experimental studies characterized by the elaboration of hypotheses that are verified experimentally by the psychometric measurement of responses. This field, which we call Experimental Linguistics, differs from the investigation carried out by Psycholinguistics, since it does not focus on the development of cognitive theories about the language faculty, but on the assessment of theoretical hypotheses, including competing theories on the explanation of the same linguistic phenomenon. In order to understand the interdisciplinary place created by the confluence of theories and methodologies at different levels of linguistic analysis carried out by Experimental Linguistics, we initially considered the reflection on the different ways of producing scientific knowledge, as well as the history of scientific methodologies and the methodologies used by Linguistics. We found that the recursion to experimentation leads to a maturation of the science of language through the possibility of empirically supporting linguistic theories, also acting as a complement to other methodologies already used in this science.
