Recusas a convites no português de universitários curitibanos e cariocas

Abstract

Resumo: Este trabalho é sobre estratégias de recusas a convites de universitários curitibanos e cariocas e insere-se nos estudos relacionados à Pragmática intercultural. O principal objetivo desta pesquisa é analisar o uso das estratégias linguísticas de polidez na formulação de recusas no português brasileiro de dois grupos: curitibano e carioca em contextos específicos. Nosso interesse é identificar qual dos dois grupos faria o uso de mais elementos atenuadores do ato de recusa. O ato de recusa é reconhecidamente um ato de fala de ameaça à imagem dos falantes, por isso, durante a interação, os interlocutores procuram formas de minimizar seus efeitos, procurando utilizar estratégias de indiretividade linguísticas. Os conceitos fornecidos pelas teorias pragmáticas que estão relacionadas aos atos de fala (AUSTIN, 1962; SEARLE, 1975, 1976, 1981), à polidez linguística (BROWN E LEVINSON, 1987), bem como a metodologia desenvolvida na pragmática contrastiva serão fundamentais para esta análise. Os estudos interculturais sobre a forma como os falantes elaboram diferentes atos de fala têm mostrado que cada cultura tem preferências específicas na realização de certos atos de fala, a partir de determinados tipos de estratégias linguísticas. Ressaltamos que, quando nos propusemos a analisar duas variantes como a curitibana e a carioca, queríamos também demonstrar que, no caso dos atos de recusa, as estratégias utilizadas por esses dois grupos quanto a realização das recusas, também vão se diferenciar por questões pragmáticas, sociais e culturais que estão presentes nas escolhas que os falantes fazem nas interações que estes estabelecem. De acordo com Ilari e Basso (2009), o estudo a partir da variação diatópica do português brasileiro não apenas afeta os aspectos substanciais do sistema fonológico e sintático da língua, mas, também, o modo como usamos essa língua em diferentes contextos de interação. Diante disso, esta pesquisa parte do pressuposto de que os usos linguísticos podem, de alguma forma, refletir a forma como diferentes grupos determinam seus padrões próprios de cada cultura, ou seja, a cultura subjetiva, na elaboração e na escolha das estratégias de polidez verbal no português. Dessa forma, nossa intenção é identificar em que medida as estratégias pragmalinguísticas de realização das recusas diferem ou se assemelham nesses dois grupos linguístico-culturais. Os dados desse estudo foram obtidos através de um questionário escrito (Discourse - Completion Test) aplicado a estudantes universitários das duas cidades, que possibilitaram a identificação e comparação das estratégias linguísticas de polidez utilizadas pelos informantes na formulação das recusas. A análise dos dados considerou também os fatores contextuais, como o tipo de recusa, a distância social, o status relativo e o tipo de relação existente entre os interlocutores. Os resultados quantitativos mostraram, por exemplo, que os informantes curitibanos são tão indiretos quanto os cariocas, mas fazem um uso maior de recusas diretas nas recusas realizadas no contexto das relações privadas; por outro lado, os cariocas, fizeram mais recusas indiretas e utilizaram mais expressões de tratamento nesses mesmos contextos. De modo geral, os resultados da pesquisa sugerem uma orientação maior para a polidez negativa dos dados do português carioca. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: RECUSA. POLIDEZ VERBAL. PRAGMÁTICA. INTERCULTURALIDADE. Abstract: The present work is about the strategical refusals to invitations used by ?curitibano? and ?carioca? college students whose issues are inserted in the studies related to the intercultural Pragmatics. The main objective of this research is to analyse the use of linguistical strategies of politeness during the formulation of refusals in the Brazilian Portuguese language spoken by the two groups: ?curitibanos? and ?cariocas? in specific contexts. The goal is to identify which of the two would use more attenuating elements in the act of a refusal. The act of refusal itself is intrinsically recognized as a speech act of threatening to the speakers image. For this reason, during the interaction, the interlocutors search means of reducing its effect by using strategies of in-directive linguistic strategies. The concepts given by the pragmatics theories related to the acts of speech (AUSTIN, 1962; SEARLE, 1975, 1976, 1981), the linguistical politeness (BROWN and LEVINSON, 1987) as well as the methodology developed in the contrastive Pragmatics will be also fundamental for this work. The intercultural studies about the way speakers elaborate different speech acts proved that each culture has its specific preferences during the realization of certain speech acts from determinate kind of linguistic strategies. The proposition to analyse two variants like the ?curitibana? and ?carioca? was also to show that, in the case of refusal acts, the strategies used by these two groups concerning the realizations of refusals will be different when considering pragmatical social and cultural issues which are present in the choices the speakers make in the interactions they establish. According to Itari and Basso (2009), the study considering the diatopic variation of the Brazilian Portuguese, not only affects the substantial aspects of the phonological and syntactic system of the language, but also affects the way this language is spoken in different contexts of interaction. So, this work considers the assumption that the linguistical uses may, somehow, reflect the way different groups determine their own standards in the formulation and choice of oral strategies of politeness in the Portuguese language - in other words, the subjective culture itself. Therefore, our intention is to identify how the pragmalinguistic strategies during the refusals differ or are similar in these two linguistic cultural groups. The data of the present study were obtained using a written questionnaire (Discourse - Completion Test) answered by the college students from Curitiba and Rio de Janeiro which have made the identification and comparison of the linguistic strategies of politeness used by the informers during the formulation of the refusals possible. The data analysis also consideres context factors such as the type of refusal, the social distance, the relative ?status? and the kind of relationship existing between the interlocutors. The quantitative results have shown, for example, that the ?curitibanos? are so indirect as the ?cariocas?, but they make more direct refusals within the context of private relationship; whereas the ?cariocas? employ more expressions of treatment in these same contexts. Finally, the results of the research have suggested a greater orientation to the negative politeness of the ?carioca? Portuguese. KEY-WORDS: REFUSAL. VERBAL POLITENESS. PRAGMATICS. INTERCULTURALITY.
