Abstract: The main objective of this study is to analyze the enactment of the New Upper Secondary Education reform (Law No. 13,415/2017) in public state schools in Ceará, focusing on the reconfigurations of Sociology teaching and of teachers’ work. From a methodological standpoint, the study adopts a qualitative approach and is characterized as bibliographic, documentary, and field-based research. In the educational institutions, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 14 Sociology teachers from the state of Ceará, with prior approval from the Research Ethics Committee for the Humanities and Social Sciences (CEP/CHS) of the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR). These teachers were affiliated with 11 upper secondary schools located in eight municipalities across both metropolitan and inland regions, including the city of Fortaleza. The theoretical and methodological framework underpinning the investigation is the Theory of Policy Enactment developed by Ball, Maguire, and Braun (2016), which enabled a contextualized analysis of the curriculum policies introduced in schools from 2017 onwards. The upper secondary education reform promoted by Law No. 13,415/2017, together with the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) and the Ceará Curriculum Reference Document (DCRC), brought about significant changes to the final stage of basic education, generating implications for schools and for Sociology teachers, and revealing forms of harm affecting both these subjects and the educational process. In turn, the findings highlight the complexity of the relationship between curriculum policies and educational contexts, which are marked by specificities and practices that preclude the mere implementation of educational reform mechanisms. The elements of Law No. 13,415/2017, the BNCC, and the DCRC undergo processes of translation within schools through teachers’ enactment, oriented toward strengthening Sociology teaching in a critical, reflective, and problematizing manner, aligned with the sociological discipline itself rather than with the formative ideal prescribed in these policy documents. This process is largely shaped by the professional culture of teachers as political subjects with formative purposes that challenge the ongoing curricular and scientific emptying observed in Brazil and in the state of Cear
