    Abstract

Abstract: This study aimed to analyze the economic and financial viability of gum resinextraction in the Itapeva region (São Paulo state, Brazil), using the Net PresentValue (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) methods. Data were obtained frominformation provided by producers and the Brazilian Resin Producers Association(ARESB), considering a 25-year production cycle. The results demonstrate thatthe investment is economically viable, with a positive NPV of R$ 25,989.33 andan IRR of 19%, exceeding the Minimum Attractive Rate of Return (MARR) of9.35%. Sensitivity analysis showed that the project is profitable, with littlesensitivity to variations in resin prices and operational costs. It was concludedthat resin extraction from Pinus elliottii represents a sustainable and profitablealternative, especially for areas with low agricultural suitability, contributing toincome generation and strengthening the Brazilian forestry sector
