Masculinidade e violência ns série Fargo : uma análise de Lester Nygaard

Abstract

Resumo: Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a relação entre masculinidade e violência na primeira temporada da série Fargo, por meio da trajetória do personagem Lester ygaard. Partindo da compreensão de que Lester representa um homem submisso e frustrado que, diante das pressões para perforrnar uma masculinidade hegemônica (Connell, 1995), evolui para um agente violento e dominante, a pesquisa investiga como essa transformação reflete tensões sociais e psicológicas associadas à construção da identidade masculina. Fundamentado em teorias de gênero e poder de autores como Butler ( 1990), Connell ( 1995) e Bourdieu ( 1998), e apoiado na análise da estrutura narrativa cinematográfica segundo Bordwell e Thompson (2014), o estudo busca compreender como a série utiliza a violência para evidenciar conflitos internos e externos relacionados à masculinidade, ampliando o debate sobre as múltiplas formas de ser homem e suas implicações sociais

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the relationship between masculinity and violence in the first season of the series Fargo, through the trajectory of the character Lester ygaard. Starting from the understanding that Lester represents a submissive and frustrated man who, under the pressures to perform a hegemonic masculinity (Connell, 1995), evolves into a violenl and dominant agent, the research investigates how this transformation reflects social and psychological tensions associated with the construction of male identity. Based on gender and power theories by authors such as Butler ( 1990), Connell (1995), and Bourdieu ( 1998), and supported by the analysis of cinematic narrative structure according to Bordwell and Thompson (2014), the study seeks to understand how the series uses violence to highlight internai and externai conflicts related to masculinity, expanding the debate on the multiple forms of being a man and their social impl ications
