Abstract: Fictionalization of writers has been gaining considerable ground in Brazilian literary production in recent decades. In addition to that, critical fiction - where criticism is in the body of fiction - has also stood out in contemporary novelistic production. In light of this, the present work aims at analyzing two contemporary Brazilian novels: Chá das cinco com o vampiro (2010), by Miguel Sanches Neto, and Fantasma (2001), by José Castello. Both works are taken here as historical fiction that dialogues with the history of literature, since, in their respective plots, they present the cultural scene of Curitiba and, automatically, the literary scene of the last decades of the 20th century. This intertextuality leads to the hypothesis that this corpus can be analyzed as historical fiction because it fictionalizes literary history based on the criticism made by literati within the fictional discourse itself. It was found that, in addition to Paulo Leminski and Dalton Trevisan - two great names in national literature portrayed in the works -, the city of Curitiba, at the time in which the narrated facts take place, also receives fictional attention. The exploration of historical references through the inventive ways disseminated in the narratives is supported by some studies (which are not exhaustive here) related to these topics. In order to understand intertextuality, the research is supported, especially, in the thought expressed by Tiphaine Samoyault (2008) and Linda Hutcheon (2000). In turn, the works of Luiz Costa Lima (1989), Hayden White (2001) and Linda Hutcheon (1991) contribute to the foundation of the historical and fictional discourse. The discussion on the relevance of fiction-criticism and the fictionalization of writers is based on Leyla Perrone-Moisés (1978), Marilene Weinhardt (1998 and 2011) and Carlos Reis (2012).
