Proper breeding of birds, especially songbirds (the order that includes parrots, parakeets, and macaws), depends directly on the quality of the facilities where the animals are kept. This was the main focus of the first video in the Psitaflix series, produced by the extension project "Knowing, Respecting, and Producing Birds: Didactic Models and Alternatives in the Teaching and Learning Process," developed by undergraduate and graduate students and professors from the Laboratory for Breeding and Incubation of Wild and Exotic Animals (LACRIAS) at the Federal University of Paraná. The video presents the different structures used for housing psittacines at LACRIAS, highlighting their characteristics and purposes. For example, cages are more compact, suitable for indoor environments, and must be selected according to the bird's size. The importance of choosing the right food, drinks, and pillows to ensure comfort and well-being was also emphasized. Furthermore, aviaries, ample facilities that allow for flight and major behavioral expression, were discussed. The video emphasized the essential parameters for the design and management of these spaces, highlighting the importance of suspended aviaries, their benefits, and the correct ways to use them. Finally, the importance of the safety corridor, fundamental for preventing escapes and ensuring the protection of animals and handlers, was presented.
