Abstract

The digestive system of Gallus gallus domesticus (domestic chicken) has specific adaptations to its physiology and flight, possessing distinct structures when compared to that of mammals. In animal production, understanding this system is of great importance, as it is responsible for the digestion and utilization of nutrients that sustain the bird's metabolism. This work was developed by an academic from the Zootechnics Course at the Federal University of Paraná, in the discipline Comparative Anatomy of Domestic Animals (BA066), linked to the extension project "Knowing, respecting and producing birds: didactic and alternative models in the teaching-learning process" and presented at the extension events: Universo UFPR and training workshops in bird management and reproduction. The model made represents in relief all the organs and accessory glands of the digestive system of the domestic chicken. Among the anatomical structures presented, those that highlight the peculiarities of the gastrointestinal tract of birds stand out: (a) Crop; (b) Proventriculus (glandular stomach); (c) Isthmus; (d) Gizzard (mechanical stomach); (e) Yolk diverticulum (Meckel's diverticulum); (f) Two ceca; (g) Cloaca.
