Abstract

The reproductive system is important for the perpetuation of individuals; in birds, it consists of the ovary and the oviduct, both located in the left antimer of the coelomic cavity. This work was developed by students of the Animal Science Course at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) through the extension project "Knowing, respecting and producing birds: didactic and alternative models in the teaching and learning process," linked to the discipline Comparative Anatomy of Domestic Animals (BA066) and presented at Universo UFPR and in training workshops on bird management and reproduction. The model was made with the principle of presenting the topography of the ovary and oviduct, in addition to exemplifying the respective functions of each segment of the oviduct, aiming to demonstrate the step-by-step formation of an egg. In this way, it demonstrates the following structures: (a) Infundibulum, the place where the oocyte from the ovary is enveloped (15 min); (b) Magnum, the region where the secretion of the albumen, popularly known as egg white, occurs (3 h); (c) Isthmus, where the shell membrane forms (1 h 30 min); (d) Uterus, responsible for secreting calcium for the formation of the hard shell (20 h); (e) Vagina, site of passage and storage of spermatozoa (5 to 10 min); (f) Cloaca, site of exit of the egg formed in the oviduct.
