This model was developed by students of the extension project “Knowing, respecting and producing birds: didactic and alternative models in the teaching and learning process”, linked to the discipline Comparative Anatomy of Domestic Animals (BA066), of the Zootechnics Course at the Federal University of Paraná. The objective of this work was to present, visually and with brief explanations, five organs that make up the digestive system of birds: (a) Esophagus – muscular tube responsible for transporting food; (b) Crop – dilation of the esophagus that acts in the temporary storage of food; (c) Proventriculus – glandular stomach, where the secretion of hydrochloric acid and digestive enzymes occurs; (d) Gastric isthmus – junction between the proventriculus and the gizzard; (e) Gizzard – thick-walled muscular organ, responsible for grinding food, a process that compensates for the absence of teeth.
