Abstract

Generally, the morphological and morphometric description of the appendicular skeleton of Gallus gallus is distinct compared to that of mammals. This work was developed by academics from the Animal Science course at the Federal University of Paraná, in the Introduction to Animal Anatomy (BA065) discipline, linked to the extension project "Knowing, respecting and producing birds: didactic and alternative models in the teaching and learning process". The objective of the project was to elaborate an illustrative model of the bones that form the pelvic limb of the domestic chicken: coxal bone (iliac bone; pubic bone and ischial bone); tibiotarsal bone and fibular bone; tarsometatarsal bone; phalanges (digits I, II, III and IV). Exemplifying the morphological differences between production animals is of paramount importance for respectful and quality breeding.
