This information card presents general aspects and myths surrounding the breeding and evolution of domestic chickens (Gallus gallus) in the food market. It was developed by students of the Animal Science program at the Federal University of Paraná, in the Introduction to Animal Anatomy course, linked to the Extension Project "Knowing, Respecting, and Producing Poultry: Didactic and Alternative Models in the Teaching and Learning Process." The work describes topics of great importance to poultry production, explaining the reasons for the significant advances in the carcass development of these animals, such as: (a) Animal Nutrition, which describes a comparison of the current diet with that previously fed to broilers; (b) Use of Hormones for Poultry, which demystifies the use of hormones, describing the reasons why their use would be illogical; (c) Evolution of Average Bird Weight, which compares four dates, showing the average weight and age at slaughter; (d) Animal Welfare, explaining the adoption of practices that ensure comfort. In a striking and colorful way, the card conveys basic information about the weight evolution of this commercial bird, and demystifies false concepts spread in the media about the use of hormones in chicken production in Brazil.
