This newsletter is an extension resource for the area of Animal Health and Prevention in Animal Science. It was produced by academics and faculty from the UFPR Animal Science Program, linked to the project "Knowing, Respecting, and Producing Poultry: Alternative Teaching Models in the Teaching-Learning Process." The objective of this newsletter was to survey the public about their knowledge of parasites or roundworms (Ascaridia galli) in domestic chicken (Gallus gallus) eggs, as well as to inform them about the parasite cycle and its respective prevention. Through the creation of illustrative images, the study demonstrated how the roundworm reaches the egg before forming the shell, the lesions it causes in infested birds, and the possible impacts on human health. Therefore, this teaching material was used in extension events (the 21st UFPR Career Fair and the 20th UFPR Integrated Week of Agricultural Sciences) to demonstrate the preventive and sanitary role of animal scientists in poultry production. It was noted that the population is unaware of the incidence of the parasite in domestic chicken eggs, as the work of professionals in the Agricultural Areas (Zootechnicians and Veterinarians) prevents the proliferation of this parasite in the production process of commercial birds (laying hens), in addition to monitoring the quality of the eggs with the identification of the Federal Inspection Seal (SIF).
