Explorando o papel do feminino nas ciências biológicas : mulheres cientistas nos livros didáticos e a produção de um e-book como ferramenta educacional

Abstract

Resumo: O objetivo da história da ciência é investigar a evolução do conhecimento científico ao longo do tempo. A sua utilização em sala de aula melhora o processo de ensino-aprendizagem, desmistificando a ideia de gênios detentores da verdade. Sua inclusão na Base Nacional Comum Curricular (BNCC) reconhece o seu papel na formação dos alunos, mostrando como os conceitos científicos foram construídos ao longo do tempo. Isso incentiva os alunos a questionarem e analisarem informações científicas. Na história, a partir do século XIX, considera-se que o papel das mulheres na construção do conhecimento científico foi e continua sendo de grande importância na educação científica. A história das mulheres na ciência é essencial para uma educação crítica não sexista. Durante séculos as mulheres foram excluídas de espaços científicos devido a preconceitos de gênero. Marie Curie é um exemplo notável, ao ser a primeira mulher a receber dois prêmios Nobel em áreas distintas. Apesar disto, há pouca menção e discussão nos livros didáticos e na sala de aula sobre as contribuições das mulheres para as pesquisas e o avanço do conhecimento científico. Portanto, é necessário destacar e explorar as pesquisas e descobertas dessas mulheres, a fim de valorizar a atuação feminina nas Ciências. Nas últimas décadas ocorreu um aumento da participação feminina na ciência, impulsionado pelo surgimento de programas e ações que incentivam as mulheres a se engajarem na ciência. No entanto, a visibilidade de suas conquistas nos livros didáticos de Biologia do ensino médio continua limitada, tornando essencial o resgate da história das mulheres na ciência para os docentes. Neste trabalho foram analisadas três de coleções de livros didáticos de Ciências da Natureza e suas Tecnologias, distribuídos pelo Programa Nacional do Livro Didático 2021 (PNLD 2021), do Ministério da Educação (MEC) para avaliar como a produção científica feminina é representada nesses textos. Os resultados mostraram uma baixa representação de cientistas do gênero feminino nessas coleções, com um total de 176 citações a cientistas, das quais apenas 22 citações envolviam cientistas mulheres. Portanto, um e-book foi desenvolvido com base no trabalho de seis mulheres cujas contribuições foram significativas em diferentes áreas da biologia, como botânica, medicina, genética e biologia molecular, microbiologia e ecologia, fornecendo suporte para que os docentes disponham de um repertório para abordar o trabalho de mulheres cientistas em diferentes estágios do ensino de biologia. O e-book inclui roteiros didáticos, sugestões de vídeos, podcasts e livros, bem como textos sobre as trajetórias de vida e contribuições dessas cientistas, permitindo que os docentes utilizem o material em suas aulas

Abstract: The objective of the history of science is to investigate the evolution of scientific knowledge over time. Its application in the classroom enhances the teaching-learning process by demystifying the notion of geniuses as the sole possessors of truth. Its inclusion in the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) recognizes its role in students development, demonstrating how scientific concepts have been constructed over time. This encourages students to question and analyze scientific information. Historically, since the 19th century, it is considered that the role of women in the construction of scientific knowledge has been and continues to be of great importance in scientific education. The history of women in science is essential for a non-sexist critical education. For centuries, women have been excluded from scientific fields due to gender prejudice. Marie Curie is a notable example, being the first woman to receive two Nobel Prizes in different fields. Nevertheless, there is little mention and discussion in textbooks and classroom about women’s contributions to research and in the advancement of scientific knowledge. Therefore, it is necessary to highlight and explore these women’s research and discoveries in order to value the contribution of women in the Sciences. In recent decades, there has been an increase in female participation in science, driven by the emergence of programs and initiatives encourage women to engage in science. However, the visibility of their achievements in high school Biology textbooks remains limited, making it essential to recover the history of women in science for educators. In this study, three collections of Natural Sciences and their Technologies textbooks distributed by the National Textbook Program 2021 (PNLD 2021) from the Ministry of Education (MEC) were analyzed to assess how female scientific production is represented in these texts. The results showed a low representation of female scientists in these collections, with a total of 176 citations to scientists, of which only 22 involved female scientists. Therefore, an e-book was developed based on the work of six women whose contributions were significant in different areas of biology, such as botany, medicine, genetics and molecular biology, microbiology and ecology, providing support for educators to have a repertoire to address the work of women scientists at different stages of biology education. The e-book includes teaching guidelines, videos suggestions, podcasts and books, as well as texts covering the life trajectories and contributions of these scientists, enabling educators to use the material in their classes
