The mini-grid implemented in the project indicated that environmental and sustainability factors gained importance in determining the configuration of current electrical energy systems and in their inevitable expansions both in the world and in Brazil. It is believed that the increased use of non-conventional Renewable Energy Resources (RER ) tends to improve environmental and sustainability indicators. The Minigrids project adopted a scientific technical criterion and method to determine how renewable and sustainable (in an environmental sense) the electricity generated in the minigrid is. Thus, a theoretical framework was established, a set of appropriate indicators, and methods for monitoring, assessing and presenting the indicators and their implications.
