The present work was developed with the objective of exploring theassessment in vulnerable contexts, and how it can be a promoter of more equitabletrajectories, when it is made from reflection and interrogation about heterogeneousparadigms, and based on consistent and applicable theories. First, to understand theconstruction of the curriculum, that shape the school evaluation nowadays, westudied how was the formation of the Brazilian public schools during republican time, and also the changes in schools culture as the Brazilian governments changed, sincethe century of XIX to the XX, until the present days. Then, we sought to how theinequalities that the most vulnerable students suffer in schools today are inheritedfrom the construction of school culture throughout the twentieth century. Bringingthese reflection to the school floor, a qualitative research was guided in a publicelementary school in the metropolitan region of Curitiba, located in a regionconsidered highly vulnerable territory. And as methodology, the initial step of theresearch was data collecting from the public school system, and also from theresearch field school, highlighting the fragility of the public of this school compared toothers in the region. Going to the analysis of the intra-school reality, the familyprofiles of the fifth grade students, from the afternoon period, were drawn, so acorrelation could be identified between the parents educational levels and theaverage income of the families, with the students school performance, where themost vulnerable children suffers more with disapproval. Having the profile of thestudents outlined, we opted to hold a conversation with fifth grade students, whichenabled a dynamic and productive communication between people, through aconversation about assessment. The dialogue circle was made in three moments:approach evaluation so they could say what they understood as evaluation; then wedeal with family influences on children's relationship with school assessment; andfinally, we approached their impressions and experiences regarding beingdisapproval in the school. The analysis of the speech from the children showed thefeeling of blame if the final result is disapproved, the difficulty in doing a homework, interpreted by the teachers as disinterest or irresponsibility, and the general feeling ofscare when taking a test, which is considered for them as the assessment tool thatwill define the future of their lives. Thus, as a main result, we realized that in thestudents view, the assessment process is essential for teaching and learning, but ithas to be idealized and executed with the participation of all the people from theschool, mainly the children, helping in the construction of new practices
