Abstract: Given the socio-cultural scenario, women are responsible for the social reproduction, which consists in guarantee caring and socialization of the next generations, with consequences later effects to women's life. In this context, our qualitative research aimed to analyze, based on the testimony of researcher-mothers, how they experience and perceive the relationship between motherhood and academic scientific trajectory. In order to reach our goal, we interview women participants in the Research Productivity grant - PQ from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development in the area of Chemistry. First of all, we tracked the researchers who are PQ fellows in the area, describing their geographic location. Second, we identified their academic and professional profile. And finally, we investigated the mechanisms that were developed by them for permanence and career advancement. Among the factors that justify the investigation are the notable gender disparity as women advance in scientific career progression in chemistry. Regarding this issue, motherhood corresponds to an important condition for the development of women's careers, mainly due to the current career model of Science and the absence of policies to support motherhood. To achieve these goals, we chose to use the Life Story methodology. As a source of information, we used the documents referring to the rules and criteria of the PQ scholarships and the composition and functions of the Advisory Committees in the Chemistry area, the Lattes Curriculum of the PQ scholarship holders, and the biographical interviews carried out with PQ scholarship mothers, with current scholarship in 2020. For the analysis of the constituted data, the Collective Subject Discourse technique was used. The results showed that researchers are a minority group in accessing PQ grants and most of them are in the lowest level/category of grant. As for the geographic region, the Southeast concentrates the largest number of scholarship holders, and representation considering all levels of PQ scholarships. The same profile is observed for PQ scholarship mothers, most of them in the range of 11 to 15 years of career time, and a heterogeneous profile regarding the age of the daughters. It was observed that their objectives when applying for the PQ scholarship are attributed to increasing the researcher's credibility, access to financial resources, and the fact that this is an evaluation parameter in other spheres of academic and scientific life. Regarding the relationship between motherhood and career in Chemistry, we emphasize that they affirm the importance of considering motherhood in the evaluations, due to its effect on their careers, resulting in a drop in productivity, less availability to participate in events, less time available for working, and lack of fair career assessments. In addition, they develop their own mechanisms for permanence and career advancement, such as having their spouses accompany them to participate in congresses, among others. Finally, we seek to contribute to the reflection on the reality experienced by mothers throughout their trajectories in this area, in order to listen to the voices of those who, by historically carrying the marks of oppression, discrimination and exclusion by the male hegemonic patterns, continue to be penalized.
