A relação entre organizing e estrutura temporal no contexto da teoria organizacional baseada em eventos

Abstract

Resumo: Nesta pesquisa, o meu objetivo consistiu em analisar por meio da perspectiva ontoepistemológica da filosofia do processo e no contexto da teoria organizacional baseada em eventos, as características decorrentes das interações entre os elementos organizing, estruturas temporais e eventos com base em processos organizacionais distintos. Para isso, realizei a leitura de diversos artigos científicos e livros relacionados à temática processual (especificamente o The Sage Handbook of Process Organization Studies (2017)), estudos recentes apresentados no European Group for Organization Studies (EGOS), e livros e artigos científicos dos autores Schultz and Hernes (2013) e Hernes (2014). Esses últimos são autores base que trabalham a perspectiva processual em estudos organizacionais. Ao longo desse estudo busquei realizar reflexões a respeito da temática e não repostas finais que aparentam ser a realidade. Na proposta de uma perspectiva processual, todas as coisas estão em constante transformação, fluidez e desenvolvimento; sendo assim, tudo está em um eterno processo de "vir a ser". Parti de três pressuposições que nortearam a minha pesquisa, as quais são: Pressuposição 1: Há diferentes tipos de eventos, de acordo com suas características específicas nas estruturas temporais. Pressuposição 2: Há diferentes tipos de estrutura temporal, de acordo com suas características específicas no processo de organizing. Pressuposição 3: Há diferentes modalidades de organizing de acordo com seu papel na constituição e mobilização de eventos e de estruturas temporais com suas características específicas. Em termos metodológicos, estudei dois processos relacionados a mesma organização, sendo o primeiro processo (i) a origem e o desenvolvimento da organização, o qual estudei "from outside" (de fora) e "after the fact" (após o fato), e o segundo processo (ii) o planejamento e execução da Conferência CADI 2020, que estudei "from within" (de dentro) e "in the flow" (no fluxo). Para isso, realizei entrevistas, observação participante e coleta de dados secundários. Por meio de um raciocínio abdutivo, expus a descrição dos resultados no formato narrativo. Explorei os eventos que são a base da perspectiva processual e assim, segui os estudos analisando a composição de estruturas temporais e a ação do organizing. A partir destes resultados, defendo a tese de que há diferentes tipos de eventos, diferentes tipos de estrutura temporal e diferentes tipos de organizing. Nesse sentido, esses diferentes "tipos" podem ser identificados com base nas características especificas decorrentes das interações entre os elementos organizing, estruturas temporais e eventos. Como contribuição teórica para a área de estudos organizacionais, especificamente com base na perspectiva processual, destaco os atributos analíticos que emergiram no processo de análise, como: (i) a sugestão de tipologias de eventos, (ii) a identificação e avaliação de estrutura temporais baseadas na profundidade e extensão temporal; e (iii) a identificação dos resultados do organizing baseados na origem e resultado dos eventos. Por fim, a tese que apresento, em virtude da ontologia relacional e da trajetória processual descrita, pode auxiliar os pesquisadores a analisar fenômenos organizacionais na perspectiva processual, e a discutir os elementos (e as suas relações): eventos, estrutura temporal e organizing nos estudos organizacionais. Apresento modelos graficamente de forma a elucidar os conceitos chave desse estudo. As representações gráficas são relevantes para apresentar as coisas que estão em um eterno processo de becoming.

Abstract: In this research, my goal was to analyze, from both the onto epistemological perspective of the process philosophy and the theoretical organization view based on events, the characteristics built from the interaction between the following elements: events, temporal structures, and organizing. For this purpose, I made use of different organizational processes. To achieve such a goal, I read different scientific works and books that share the processual lens (specifically the book The Sage Handbook of Process Organization Studies published in 2017), recent studies presented in European Group for Organization Studies (EGOS), and books and papers from the authors Schultz and Hernes (2013) e Hernes (2014). The latter are essential authors who work with the processual perspective in organizational studies. Throughout this study, I sought to reflect on the theme and not the final answers that appear to be reality. In a processual perspective, all things are in constant transformation, fluidity, and development; therefore, everything is in an eternal process of "becoming." I started from three assumptions that guided my research: Assumption 1: There are different types of events, according to their specific characteristics in temporal structures. Assumption 2: There are different types of temporal structure, according to their specific characteristics in the organizing process. Assumption 3: There are different modalities of organizing according to their role in the constitution and mobilization of events and temporal structures with their specific characteristics. In methodological terms, I studied two processes related to the same organization, the first process being (i) the origin and development of the organization, which I studied "from outside" and "after the fact" (after the fact), and the second process being (ii) the planning and execution of the CADI 2020 Conference, which I studied "from within" and "in the flow." I conducted interviews, did participant observation, and collected secondary data. Through abductive reasoning, I exposed the description of the results in a narrative format. I explored the events that are the basis of the processual perspective and, thus, I followed the studies analyzing the composition of temporal structures and the action of organizing. Based on these results, I defend the thesis that there are different types of events, different types of temporal structure, and different types of organizing. In this sense, these different "types" can be identified based on the specific characteristics arising from the interactions between organizing, temporal structures, and events. As a theoretical contribution to the area of organizational studies, based explicitly on the processual perspective, I highlight the analytical attributes that emerged in the analysis process, such as (i) the suggestion of event typologies, (ii) the identification and evaluation of temporal structures based on depth and temporal extent; and (iii) the identification of the results of organizing based on the origin and outcome of the events. Finally, due to the relational ontology and the processual trajectory described, the present thesis can help researchers analyze organizational phenomena from a processual perspective and discuss the following elements (and their relationships) in organizational studies: events, temporal structure, and organizing. I present models graphically to elucidate this study's key concepts. Graphic representations are relevant to present things in an eternal process of becoming.
