Verbos depictivos na Libras : uma descrição à luz de Liddell (2003)

Abstract

Resumo: Segundo Liddell (2003), existem verbos na língua de sinais americana, ASL (do inglês American Sign Language), que além de possuírem um conteúdo semântico, expressam, através de sua forma material, informações topográficas. Por essa razão, o referido autor passa a se referir a essas construções como verbos depictivos. Esses verbos têm a propriedade de depictar propriedades visuais e tipográficas de entidades. Liddell propõe três categorias de verbos depictivos: uma se refere a verbos que depictam a presença de uma entidade em um lugar; uma segunda, à forma e à extensão de uma superfície ou a extensão de um arranjo linear de entidades individuais e, por fim, uma terceira inclui verbos que depictam movimento ou manipulação de entidades. O objetivo deste trabalho foi identificar, descrever e analisar verbos depicitivos na libras. Para tanto, analisei uma narração da "História da Pera" por uma sinalizante surda da cidade de São Paulo. Valendo-me das três categorias de verbos depictivos propostas por Liddell, após identificar 22 verbos e segmentá-los do vídeo, agrupei-os por tipo. Meus resultados apontam a ocorrência das três categorias propostas por Liddell (2003), sendo o primeiro tipo o menos frequente e o terceiro, o mais. Além disso, identifiquei dois casos de uso simultâneo destas categorias por meio da realização de dois verbos, um em cada mão, ao mesmo tempo.

Abstract: According to Liddell (2003), there are verbs in American Sign Language, ASL, which, in addition to having a semantic content, express, through their form, topographical information. For this reason, the aforementioned author starts to refer to these constructions as depictive verbs. These verbs have the property of portraying visual and topographic properties of entities. Liddell presents three categories of depictive verbs: one refers to verbs that depict the presence of an entity in a place; a second, shape and extent of a surface or extent of a linear arrangement of individual entities, and finally, a third includes verbs depicting movement or manipulation of entities. For that, I analyzed a narration of the "Pear Story" by a deaf signer from the city of São Paulo. Using the three categories of depictive verbs proposed by Liddell, after identifying 22 verbs and segmenting them from the video, I grouped them by their type. My results indicate the occurrence of the three categories proposed by Liddell (2003), the first type being the least frequent and the third the most frequent. Furthermore, I identified two cases of simultaneous constructions, which consist of the production of two depictive verbs, one in each hand, at the same time.
