História da ciência na perspectiva das mulheres : o domínio da natureza e da mulher em Carolyn Merchant

Abstract

Resumo: A presente dissertação tem como tema central a apresentação da história da ciência de uma perspectiva feminista, ao tomar como objeto de estudo a obra "The Death of Nature: Women, Ecologie and Scientific Revolution – A Morte da Natureza: Mulheres, Ecologia e Revolução Científica" da historiadora e filósofa estadunidense Carolyn Merchant. A pesquisa possui caráter bibliográfico e exploratório e se estrutura na síntese de cinco capítulos selecionados da obra, a partir dos quais trouxeram uma reconstrução histórica feita por Merchant. Os capítulos foram selecionados com base em seu conteúdo, quais sejam, aqueles que explicitavam uma relação maior entre mulher, natureza e ciência. A pesquisa tem como objetivo acrescentar à literatura da história da ciência uma nova referência bibliográfica distinta daquelas que já estamos habituados, que seja mais inclusiva e que encoraje cada vez mais as meninas e mulheres a produzirem ciência por se sentirem representadas dentro dela. Dentre as nossas conclusões, destaca-se que o estudo da obra de Carolyn nos auxilia na compreensão de como a ciência moderna se consolidou na exclusão das mulheres e que sua obra foi pouco explorada em território nacional. Nesse sentido, acreditamos que essa pesquisa pode contribuir para incentivar que mais trabalhos feitos por mulheres sejam reconhecidos dentro de seus campos de pesquisa, e não somente como trabalhos feministas, mas sim como trabalhos históricos, filosóficos e sociológicos.

Abstract: The present dissertation has as its central theme the presentation of the history of science from a feminist perspective, by taking as its object of study the work "The Death of Nature: Women, Ecologie and Scientific Revolution" by American historian and philosopher Carolyn Merchant. The research has a bibliographic and exploratory character and is structured in the synthesis of five selected chapters of the work, from which it brought a historical reconstruction made by Merchant. The chapters were selected based on their content, that is, those that made explicit a greater relationship between women, nature and science. The research aims to add to the literature on the history of science a new bibliographic reference that is different from those we are used to, one that is more inclusive and that encourages more and more girls and women to produce science because they feel represented within it. Among ours, it is highlighted that the study of Carolyn's work helps us to understand how modern science was consolidated in the exclusion of women and that her work was little explored in the national territory, besides believing that this research can contribute to encourage more work by women to be recognized within their fields of research, and not just as feminist work, but as historical, philosophical, and sociological works.
