Uma linda reta : uma interpretação socioambiental da gênese da Estrada do Mar (1924-1938)

Abstract

Resumo: Esta dissertação analisa, sob a perspectiva da história ambiental, a gênese da Estrada do Mar - primeira rodovia paranaense projetada para alcançar uma praia -, bem como as circunstâncias e consequências de sua construção. A efetivação dessa estrada, nos primeiros anos do século XX, constitui um evento crítico na história do litoral do Paraná, marcando uma inflexão nas relações entre o planalto e a costa ao converter grande parte da Praia da Barra do Sul de estrada carroçável em balneário. O estudo insere essa infraestrutura em uma temporalidade expandida, explorando-a como resultado de uma combinação dialética de processos sociais e naturais. Promovida como símbolo de progresso, a estrada revelou-se, em pouco tempo, tecnicamente precária, economicamente insustentável e socialmente excludente. Atendendo prioritariamente aos veranistas ricos, excluiu populações locais e impôs uma lógica de desenvolvimento centrada na dominação territorial, nos apagamentos históricos e nos impactos socioambientais duradouros

Abstract: This dissertation analyzes, from the perspective of environmental history, the genesis of the Estrada do Mar the first road in Paraná designed to reach a beach as well as the circumstances and consequences of its construction. The implementation of this road in the early years of the 20th century constitutes a critical event in the history of the Paraná coast, marking a turning point in the relationship between the plateau and the coast by converting a large part of Praia da Barra do Sul from a cart track into a seaside resort. The study places this infrastructure within an expanded temporality, exploring it as the result of a dialectical combination of social and natural processes. Promoted as a symbol of progress, the road soon proved to be technically precarious, economically unsustainable, and socially exclusionary. Serving primarily wealthy vacationers, it excluded local populations and imposed a development logic centered on territorial domination, historical erasure, and lasting socioenvironmental impacts
