O cuidado de si em Michel Foucault : deslocamentos entre o momento socrático-platônico e o helenístico-romano

Abstract

Resumo: A presente pesquisa tem como temática o cuidado de si nos momentos socrático-platônico e helenístico-romano a partir do pensamento de Michel Foucault. Mais precisamente, nosso objetivo é identificar os deslocamentos histórico-filosóficos dos momentos socrático-platônico e helenístico-romano por meio de análises comparativas em torno de três questões norteadoras: Quem deve cuidar-se? Como deve se cuidar? Com qual finalidade se cuida? Para isso, nos debruçamos minuciosamente sobre o curso de Foucault A hermenêutica do sujeito, de 1982, bem como consideramos textos selecionados das coletâneas Ditos e Escritos e da obra A história da sexualidade III: o cuidado de si, de 1984. A partir de tais análises, identificamos que, no momento socrático-platônico, os homens jovens prestes a iniciarem a vida adulta são aqueles que devem se ocupar de si mesmos, através do reconhecimento do divino na própria alma no âmbito da relação erótico-pedagógica com o mestre. Nesse momento, o indivíduo cuida de si para se tornar capaz de cuidar da cidade, isto é, de governar os outros. Por outro lado, no momento helenístico-romano, o cuidado de si é recomendado a todos, e não apenas aos destinado à vida político-institucional. Nesse momento, o cuidado é exercido por meio de diversas práticas cotidianas que permeiam as relações sociais. Aquele que cuida de si o faz em vista do autogoverno, o qual depende, por sua vez, da compreensão de que o si pertence ao cosmos. Nesse sentido, governar bem a si mesmo permite que o si se aperfeiçoe enquanto um bom cidadão do mundo

Abstract: The theme of this research is the care of the self in the Socratic-Platonic and Hellenistic-Roman periods, based on the thought of Michel Foucault. More precisely, our objective is to identify the historical-philosophical shifts of the Socratic-Platonic and Hellenistic-Roman periods through comparative analyses around three guiding questions: Who should take care of the self? How should this individual take care of him/herself? For what purpose should he/she take care of him/herself? To this end, we carefully examined Foucault's course The Hermeneutics of the Subject, from 1982, as well as considered selected texts from the collections Dits et Écrits and the work The History of Sexuality III: The Care of the Self, from 1984. Based on these analyses, we identified that, in the Socratic-Platonic period, young men about to begin adult life are those who should take care of themselves, through the recognition of the divine in their own souls within the scope of the erotic-pedagogical relationship with the master. In this case, the individual takes care of himself in order to become capable of taking care of the city, that is, of governing others. On the other hand, in the Hellenistic-Roman period, the care of the self is recommended to everyone, and not just to those destined for political-institutional life. In this case, care is exercised through various daily practices that permeate social relations. Those who take care of themselves do so with a view to self-government, which in turn depends on the understanding that the self belongs to the cosmos. In this sense, governing oneself allows the self to perfect him/herself as a good citizen of the world
