Dimensões culturais e comportamentais da cisheteronormatividade e do estigma LGBTQ : uma interpretação analítico-comportamental da obra de Meredith Worthen

Abstract

Resumo: Enquanto, no decorrer da história, a cisgeneridade e heterossexualidade foram definidas enquanto o padrão – correto, biológico, moral, legal, entre outros – da sexualidade humana, as demais variações foram censuradas e punidas, passando a ser consideradas "pecados", "crimes", "patologias", entre inúmeras outras associações negativas – e selecionadas de acordo. O controle da sexualidade humana foi mantido e fortalecido por múltiplas agências controladoras através dos séculos, de forma que a noção de que cisgeneridade e heterossexualidade seriam o padrão se naturalizou, tornando-se uma forma de controle amplamente presente e indiscriminada na sociedade. Mais recentemente, com o avanço da população LGBTQ em se organizar e lutar por equidade, cunhou-se o termo cisheteronormatividade para explicitar esse fenômeno. Nesse trabalho, utilizamos a obra Queers, Bis, and Straight Lies: An Intersectional Examination of LGBTQ Stigma, de Meredith Worthen (2020), para caracterizar a cisheteronormatividade sob a perspectiva analítico-comportamental. A cisheteronormatividade foi definida como a regra segundo a qual são reforçados quaisquer comportamentos que facilitem o acesso a reforçamento contingente a comportamentos interpretados como cisgênero e/ou heterossexuais – ou que dificultem o acesso a reforçadores positivos, que punam ou que coloquem em extinção comportamentos não-cisgênero e não-heterossexuais. A partir dessa definição, utilizamos a proposta da contingência cultural de três termos, de Fontana e Laurenti (2020a), para interpretar, no nível cultural de seleção comportamental, as múltiplas variáveis relacionadas à cisheteronormatividade levantadas na obra de Worthen (2020). Assim, a cisheteronormatividade foi discutida enquanto prática cultural, com os dados apresentados por Worthen interpretados enquanto contexto antecedente, práticas culturais e consequências culturais das práticas cisheteronormativas. Destaca-se o papel das agências controladoras na construção e manutenção das práticas culturais cisheteronormativas, tal como o aspecto interseccional dessas práticas, que informam e são informadas por outras estruturas de desigualdade social, sendo essas estruturas inter-relacionadas imperativas para a manutenção da hierarquia social atualmente vigente. Por fim, algumas estratégias para enfraquecer o controle da cisheteronorma foram delineadas, reconhecendo a urgência de diminuir os diversos efeitos colaterais negativos dessas práticas à população

Abstract: While, throughout history, cisgender and heterosexuality have been defined as the standard – correct, biological, moral, legal, among others – of human sexuality, other variations have been censored and punished, coming to be considered "sins", "crimes", "pathologies", among countless other negative associations – and selected accordingly. The control of human sexuality has been maintained and strengthened by multiple controlling agencies over the centuries, so that the notion that cisgender and heterosexuality would be the standard has become naturalized, becoming a widely present and indiscriminate form of control in society. More recently, with the advancement of the LGBTQ population in organizing and fighting for equality, the term cisheteronormativity was coined to explain this phenomenon. In this work, we use the Meredith Worthen’s Queers, Bis, and Straight Lies: An Intersectional Examination of LGBTQ Stigma (2020), to characterize cisheteronormativity from a behavioral-analytic perspective. Cisheteronormativity was defined as the rule according to which any behaviors that facilitate access to reinforcement contingent on behaviors interpreted as cisgender and/or heterosexual are reinforced – or any behaviors that restrict access to positive reinforcers, that punish or put non-cisgender and non-heterosexual behaviors into extinction. Based on this definition, we used Fontana and Laurenti’s (2020a) threefold cultural contingency proposal to interpret, at the cultural level of behavioral selection, the multiple variables related to cisheteronormativity raised in Worthen’s work (2020). Thus, cisheteronormativity was discussed as a cultural practice, with the data presented by Worthen interpreted as antecedent context, cultural practices and cultural consequences of cisheteronormative practices. The role of controlling agencies in the construction and maintenance of cisheteronormative cultural practices is highlighted, as well as the intersectional aspect of these practices, which both inform and are informed by other structures of social inequality, with these interrelated structures being imperative to the maintenance of the current social hierarchy. Finally, some strategies to weaken the control of cisheteronormativity were outlined, recognizing the urgency of reducing the various negative side effects of these practices to the population
