Por uma democracia possível : contribuições do pensamento de Hannah Arendt

Abstract

Resumo: De que forma a reflexão de Hannah Arendt em torno do significado (e dos desafios) da política pode ser mobilizada para se pensar a democracia? Partindo desta questão, a hipótese central desta tese é a de que Hannah Arendt, apesar de não tratar sistematicamente da democracia ao longo de seus livros, fornece conceitos e categorias que permitem repensar a democracia para além de uma forma de governo organizada em torno de procedimentos formais. Por conseguinte, abre-se caminho para se pensar uma "configuração política" dentro da qual a questão por excelência consiste em saber como promover, da maneira mais igualitária possível, a diversidade de opiniões e fazer valer a pluralidade de discursos e de ações compartilhadas. Assim sendo, na primeira parte da tese, o ponto de partida é o posicionamento de Hannah Arendt frente aos efeitos políticos da ascensão totalitária e da glorificação do trabalho nas sociedades modernas, a fim de analisar alguns dos desafios que perpassam a democracia ocidental. Em seguida, busca-se destacar como as noções de pluralidade, isonomia e desobediência civil podem contribuir para a reconstrução de um sentido participativo para a experiência democrática.

Abstract: In what way the Hannah Arendt’s reflection on the meaning (and challenges) of politics could be mobilized to thinking the question of democracy? Starting from that question, the central hypothesis of this thesis is that Hannah Arendt, despite not dealing systematically with democracy throughout her books, provides concepts and categories that allow us to rethink the democracy beyond a form of government organized around formal procedures. Therefore, a path opens up to thinking about a "political configuration" in which the principal question consists in how to promote, in the most egalitarian way possible, the diversity of opinions and enforce the plurality of shared discourses and actions. Thus, in the first part of the thesis, the starting point is Hannah Arendt's position facing the political effects of the rise of totalitarianism and the glorification of labor in modern societies in order to analyze some of the challenges that permeate Western democracy. Then, the next step is to highlight how the notions of plurality, isonomy and civil disobedience can contribute to the reconstruction of a participatory sense of the democratic experience.
