Arte barroca brasileira : o sincretismo na imaginária sacra entre os séculos XVII e XVIII

Abstract

Resumo: Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo investigar os efeitos da imaginária sacra da arte barroca no Brasil nas práticas artísticas e nas representações sagradas entre os séculos XVII e XVIII a partir do envolvimento de diferentes grupos étnico-sociais, tais como povos indígenas de certas regiões, africanos e seus descendentes. Ambos constituindo-se como populações que na estrutura social desse tempo foram inferiorizadas e submetidas ao projeto de catequização da Igreja Católica. A metodologia utilizada foi uma pesquisa qualitativa e exploratória a partir da análise contextual do período e do estudo das imagens e autores que retrataram o processo de sincretismo cultural. Constatou-se que, mesmo o barroco estando ligado ao projeto de catequização da Igreja Católica, foi possível perceber a construção de um imaginário dentro do qual transparece certa construção identitária e cultura de povos não europeus. Dessa forma, estabelecem-se novos modos de interpretação dessas imagens e é evidenciada a necessidade de mais pesquisas nessa área pela importância de se conhecer o imaginário barroco para além dos artífices europeus

Abstract: This research aims to investigate the effects of the sacred imagery of baroque art in Brazil on artistic practices and sacred representations between the 16th and 18th centuries based on the involvement of different ethno-social groups, such as indigenous peoples of certain regions, Africans and their descendants. Both groups constituted themselves as populations that in the social structure of that time were inferior and subjected to the catechization project of the Catholic Church. The methodology used was qualitative and exploratory research based on the contextual analysis of the period and the study of images and authors who portrayed the process of cultural syncretism. It was found that even though the Baroque was linked to the catechization project of the Catholic Church it was possible to perceive the construction of an imaginary within which a certain identity construction and culture of nonEuropean people appears. Therefore, new forms of interpreting those images are established, hilighting the need for further research in this area due to the importance of understanding the baroque imagery beyond the European artisans interpretation
